    Default Recipes for our new blender

    The wife has been wanting a new blender for a while. We seem to get a new one every two or three years, and they've all sucked. I don't think we've ever spent more than ~$100 on one. They couldn't break things down small enough, much less truly puree anything, and generally the blades don't ever create a vortex pulling the ingredients down into them. So they'd smash up everything in the bottom of the container, but nothing more than an inch or so off the bottom.

    Yesterday I stepped up our blending game and ordered a Vitamix A2300. Reading up on blenders a bit and watching some YouTube videos, it seems the Vitamix are pretty much the best of the best, so I got one of the less expensive models ($400 on Amazon. The red one is $350, but the wife doesn't like red....). It's made in the USA, has a 10yr warranty including normal wear and tear, and the drive components are all metal. Basically I said, okay lets get a nice blender and hopefully it'll be the last blender we ever buy. The wife is super excited. It'll be here tomorrow.

    So. What recipes y'all got? Soups, smoothies, nut butters, you name it.

    Good choice. I've had my Vitamix since 1985.

    Let's start simple. A good friend from Ghana taught me this for settling a upset stomach. Also, it is really really refreshing.

    Ice, fresh ginger (alot), local honey.

    That's what I like hearing.

    FYI I'm the same age as your blender.

    This morning my smoothie was:

    A grapefruit
    A big handful of spinach
    A quarter avocado
    A piece of ginger the size of my thumb
    A cup of orange juice
    A cup of almond milk
    A couple ice cubes

    I think a mix of fruit and green veg does more to get me going in the morning than coffee.

    Wait for Mr. Musgrave to comment. IIRC his entire crew wakes up with smoothies.

    Frequent smoothie in the Blue Jays household similarly blended via Vitamix:

    * apple juice base to preferred level
    * ladle of non-fat strawberry Greek yogurt
    * handful of fresh spinach
    * handful of frozen strawberries
    * dollop of peanut butter
    * pinch of SuperBeets powder
    * scoop of strawberry Recoverite

    ENJOY!

    I often start the day with a handful of spinach, whole banana, 1/2 apple, some coconut water, a couple tablespoons of yogurt, some frozen blueberries, some ginger.

    Lunch today was via the blendtec
    Spinach, ginger root, kiwi, carrots, cuke, greek yogurt, scoop of vanilla protein powder and soy milk for liquid along with ice.

    With your new blender, you can go way outside the box. It's a great place to toss a veggie/fruit combo and hit it.
    One note if you're sensitive the color of your food, you'll want to pay attention to what you mix and know your color theory ; )

    Tequila/ice/lime juice. Mess with the ratios until you find something you like.

    Revisiting this thread after a few years off the smoothie wagon.

    First, we burned out a KitchenAid.

    Then, we burned out a Ninja.

    We soldiered on with something called a Magic Bullet and a stick blender.

    Yesterday, about two years after the Ninja died, a Vitamix finally showed up, and oh boy is this thing amazing! Just in time for real summer produce to start rolling in here. Gazpacho, here we come!

    Well done. I'll want to hear about your Gaspacho. A bowl of that cold with sour creme is a childhood favorite.
