Okay, here's another "How about this application?" question:

S&S Machine Works explicitly recommends this grease for their frame couplers.

Could NFS Race Grease be an appropriate substitute?

I can not tell a lie, yes. That is what I use. A very very light coating. Engineers are going to jump all over this BUT the threads are quite tall and don't need much in the way of lubrication in order to hold fast. In other words those threads are really really robust. Their mortal enemy is hard debris not lack of lubrication...if I had to pick one. Personally, I wipe some lube on with my hands than rub the threads to distribute. Each time I use the S&S I wipe the threads with a cotton cloth using my finger nails to chase the threads. Our CoMotion was purchased in 2000, it's been apart more times than I can count...honestly don't remember the last time I hit it with lube but I do clean threads every time.

    Helps?

Oh definitely! ...especially since I was too lazy to dig the Finish Line Extreme Fluoro out of my wife's still-packed bike case the other night when I was assembling mine, and so used Race Grease on my couplers instead. Glad to know they won't asplode as I'm JRA.

I took some time last week to clean my chain (sprayed WD-40 on a rag and wiped down the chain) and dropped a few drops of NFS on the chain. Three minutes well spent... and I took my time.

It's awfully nice when your tires are the loudest part of your bike.

Is the biodegradable lube no longer available? I don't see it on the NFS store.

No longer available. It was a really neat product but just too expensive. For the people who REALLY need this it was a unicorn product. Truly no smell, non-toxic and no color AND it was about 90% as good as NFS.

Oh well, this is not the end of the world...as we know it.

That's unfortunate, but I'll make do.

I'll be offering my wrenching services at the Bonney Lake Triathlon tomorrow morning. Anyone who should need chain lube will be receiving NFS. And yes, there will be a few.

Excellent Dave, always giving back that's nice. How was the event?

Oh, I have some janky stickers to give away at Philly Bike Expo.

That could be arranged. The stickers are not here yet, once they arrive I'll send you the goods.

    Josh,

Is the NFS Speedcoat lube that Boyd is using on his rear hub internals any different from the NFS Race Grease? If it is different, what's different about it and is it available to purchase?

Same same and yes you can purchase it. Crazy over the top good stuff. >> NixFrixShun Bicycle Speed Shop I've been selling alot of Race Grease to wheel builders. Thanks to some gents like Tommy Barse Cutlass the word is out. Use this to replace the factory lube and enjoy the results.
