We watched The Favourite this weekend. It was, uh, odd, I guess. There's some interesting camera work.

I loved The Favourite. It was hilarious and the performances were absolutely fantastic, especially Olivia Coleman.

Now I'm going to have to watch the next two seasons of The Crown to get more time with her as the queen of England...

The Favourite is so, so good. The costumes alone - my sainted aunt. Fantastic.

Another one that is the opposite of suck is Captain Marvel. Pretty darn good.

Maybe because of low expectations, but I really liked Captain Marvel. About 1000x better than Aquaman. The actress did a fantastic nod of bringing the character to life.

Captain Marvel is one I’d like to see. It’s a better character story than aquaman before you even get to the quality of the movie ...

We watched "Abducted In Plain Sight" last night, on Netflix. What happened to the girl is terrible. But her parents - possibly the dumbest people on the planet. I mean, they're infuriatingly stupid. It's just one idiotic decision after another.

The pedophile's brother's 'matter-of-a-fact' way of talking had us laughing hard.

We watched this a couple of weeks ago; there are so many moments that had me mouth-agape, hands thrown in the air, and eyes wide. There's naive, and then there's these idiots.

My kid was watching Into the Spiderverse, and like any good geek dad I said "hey pause on that screen"...

Check out just right of center... It was like everything else was black and white.

Also, it was a really good film, as the genre goes.

The Highwaymen on Netflix. Starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson. It's about the guys that tracked down Bonnie and Clyde. Great flick.

I could not watch Vice till the end. Just too fing painful, and too coy. The death and destruction and discredit to every principle this country was founded on was not entertaining.

"Us" does not suck. Very creepy. Good movie for horror fans who like to obsess over details.

It did cloak the death, destruction and discredit in very dark satire and took an approach that was in stark contrast to other more serious historical/political movies (JFK for example). Setting that aside, Christian Bale and Amy Adams do an amazing job.

I don't do the obsessive thing, but I liked it.
It might register better after a while or longer.
    That happens often.
The acting, music, some of the creepy crawly stuff when us and the unknown first meet was engaging.

Get out made a stronger impression.
Nice to see this second film kill at the box office.

^^I'm looking forward to the new Twilight Zone. But...it's gonna have to be GREAT to be better than Black Mirror.

Watched "Hail, Caesar!" last night - certainly not the best Coen brothers movie, but it did not suck. A bit anti-climactic and no nearly catastrophic enough for my tastes/expectations, but not suck-y.

I enjoyed this movie. Like you, I rate other Coen flicks higher, but it has its moments. I suspect George watches Cary Grant doing comedy (such as The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer) when he prepares for roles like these.

Doris Day's death had me thinking about the 1956 version of "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and I realized I never saw the 1934 version so I watched it on the internet. There's some amateurish elements to this production but it was also very much enjoyable in ways the 1956 version was not. I enjoyed seeing Peter Lorre, I liked the strong female lead who turns out was the one who shoots the bad guy although seeing one of the good guys fall victim to hypnosis seemed cheesy.

Anyone see both versions? Which did you like better? -Mike G

The '56 version is better, for early Hitchcock try 1935, "The 39 Steps"

For multiple remakes it is hard to top "The Prisoner of Zenda", look for the Ronald Coleman version.
