Rule of thirds is mostly for guys like me with little experience on what makes a photo good, it's my default composition most of the time. When I first saw this photo it looked like it did follow the thirds rule(mass of tree base and vertical growth directly above), I didn't notice the "echo" and the distant tree until it was pointed out, immediately saw it. Very nice photo.

Isn't that the reason we do what we do. If we didn't, we wouldn't do it. Whatever your 'it' is... Keep'em coming @guido.

I'm happy with the result...
I agree with the rule of thirds being over done and not even done correctly in most cases. I was a combat photojournalist in the Air Force for 10 years and one of my supervisors was so hell bent on rule of thirds, it was infuriating.

I do see what you are saying with the other aspects of the shot, and I like hearing your process as to why you shot it that way. Loving the B/W as well, I think I need to get the old Minolta SRT-101 back out for some b/w film shooting!

Opps, I thought I was posting the above pic in the "one photo a day" thread, not a photographer by any means, just a guy that randomly uses my iPhone.
