Back to the subject at hand.

I was paging thru Badger and Blade forum and stumbled on this: Stainless Steel Double Edged Safety Razors

Trust me, it looks like a Feather Stainless Steel DE but it's even more expensive and unnecessary. Make it stop.

If there's anyone with lower morals than you, it's I. I already got one of those about a year ago. And I got the full kit, plus there are another couple machine shops out there making similar customizable kits and I decided to try them as well. You only live once. I should do a review, but that would only stew Josh's gizzard really badly. Bottom line is, they are worth it once you get the right combination. Significantly better blade holding than the AS-D2 and a lot more mass (if you go in that direction) so you get a better feel in the hand and arguably a better shave.

Josh should know that Badger & Blade is simple porn. Once there, you can't stop. Of course, that's been said about VS as well.

thought this one deserved a little bump, since I did not see one of my favorite shaving soaps mentioned, and it is too good (and cheap) not to be on the list of those to try: Arko, it comes in a normal tub as well as mini sticks for travel. I can't say it is exactly unscented because it smells like Ivory soap of old, so very light, which I believe comes from tallow, and that secret ingredient makes it awesome. not one I use every day, since variety is the spice of life, but will always be in the rotation

FWIIW I am the opposite, only gentle shaving techniques for me. Aggressive razors result in me not shaving for a week.

I'm actually with you on the razor/shaving front, this little beauty was a bit of a experiment. I tend to like mild razors and Feather blades.

For everyone else, how many people would be interested in a Timeless Razor group purchase? I don't know what we'll get, but MassDrop is featuring even Feather AS-D2's, and if we could amass a few customers for this one, we could see if we can get a deal.

Anyone here tried an Oristo safety razor? If you like an AS-D2 you might like this one. I purchased one last fall and have been impressed. Expensive ($200 for plain stainless, $250 for DLC) but they have a very tightly controlled blade positioning and gap, and give a shave in the style of the AS-D2 but perhaps a bit better. It's a heavy razor but has a handle shape that makes it easier to hold than the AS-D2. This was a recently Kickstarter and is currently on Massdrop at $99 for the plain stainless and $150 for the DLC.

At this point this is neck and neck with my Timeless.

It must be new, the orig. version had a scent that could kill moths. I'm hooked on mitchell's wool fat shaving soap, all hope is lost.

I think it is new. They're marketing the natural-ness due to the lack of preservatives like BHT.

Paradigm is getting ready for a short release of new product. These guys make amazing razors, mostly fairly fine cut, in stainless and titanium. The runs are small (the last one was about 35 units) and sell out instantly. No preorders. I hesitate to recommend them because they are a waiting game, like certain steel frames. But they are absolutely amazing razors. Best of the bunch.

I'm a Harry's guy, and use Proraso shave soap. It's Italian so you know it's good. I shave about every two days. And I finish off with a coating of good quality lotion, whatever I have in the drawer.

I'm sure the new, limited availability Titanium and Stainless razors are all that and a bag of chips, but I've settled on a couple of vintage Gillettes for now. A got a Tech from the 50s, one from my dad from the late 60s and on a whim, picked up an adjustable ("slim") from my birth year of 1964. And there's the old Schick injector that belonged to my mom's dad. Having never shaved with a modern wonder razor, I can't compare, but not sure how they could be that much better than my little collection. They all have their personalities in terms of mildness and efficiency; the adjustable can be set to my mood or blade of the day, yada, yada. I also dig using one that was made in the same year (and quarter!) that I was born. I picked up an extra fancy handle to use with the Tech, which originally came with a Bakelite handle, but not sure that I prefer it. The stainless bulldog handle has nice heft and knurling, while the lighter handle is more nimble. Anyway, all together the lot cost probably half or a third of a boutique razor and you get to shave with history.

Josh, I've tried the Mitchell's and liked it well enough, but wasn't blown away. seems nice for dry winter skin, but not as easy to lather as some of my others ( a couple of Proraso, Kiss my Face, Arko mentioned above, Palmolive (seriously, it's still out there and pretty darn good, super cheap) and another or two

The hidden gems among these limited production double edge razors are the bronze ones. They develop a beautiful patina over time, are better than stainless at avoiding rust, but above all, they have a smoothness on the skin that you can't get with a steel or titanium razor. They just glide without any lubricant on the face, so they give a better shave than almost any stainless or ti razor, the AS-D2 included. It's pretty cool. They also tighten up really smoothly so you get very consistent and tight blade fixturing. Plus they're the cheapest.
