Most folks love it for the sic-fi time travel nature of time and space shit- but all that is just bullshit allegory for me that really is just a way to point to the truths about Germany, Germans, the pastoral, and what history, time, people, culture and family are in Germany despite the terrors modernity has tortured the Germans with in really unspeakable terms. It was quite simply, the most amazing piece of story telling or German Pastoral Romantic Story Telling I have experienced since Effi Briest by Theodor Fontane and Goethe's Die Leiden des judges Werthers.

Not sure what most of this means but I quite like the show. I agree with you that it captures small-town Germany very well. Watching in German with English subtitles although it might be worth a re-watch without any subtitles as I feel like I'm missing some of the visuals at times.

This is probably pretty low-brow for the VSalon crowd, but after years of pestering from my wife and it finally arriving on Hulu (which we have to VPN being across the ocean) we're about to finish the first season of Lost. Being an angsty teenager when it first came out I was a solid naysayer, but I'll be damned if it isn't a bunch of fun to watch. Fortunately, this being my only real socializing site on the internet, I've avoided spoilers for the past decade or so which means I'm genuinely enjoying the journey. We're clocking an episode a night so should be wrapping up in about 4 months...

The Staircase is gripping, unique to watch criminal defense in real time.

I thought Making a Murderer was decent if for only the story, but The Staircase is far superior as a series.

The Jinx is up next to round out my homocide viewing for the year

It's not the same level of 'fun' as the other recommendations, but this whole series is really good.

Just finished season one of "Halt and Catch Fire". It's a little inconsistent but enjoyable, in an 80s nerd sort of way.

Watching "Hap and Leonard" on Netflix.

Hard to describe. No country for Old Men the rural SE version???? It's good, worth a peek.

Endeavour Season 5 which is the Inspector Morris prequel is out (it's 1968 now) and it fits me like a warm blanket for the classic Whodunit. I am sure it will start shortly on PBS, so best to binge season 1-4 now.

    I'm intrigued.

If you liked No Country For Old Men, check out Hell or High Water. Great movie, and a lot of funny moments sprinkled throughout. This scene in particular gave me the LOLs:

I was using Lost as my easy hour on the rollers show. Pretty darn good for that. Gotta be sci-fi action for that.

Also behind the times: we're almost through season one of the Sopranos. Great stuff!

Cool. How they approach racism, sexual orientation and psycho-pathology in the same breath kinda made it for me.

Just went through the 2 seasons of "The Frankenstein Chronicles" a BBC series on Netflix. 2 seasons, 6 ep per. So it's not a lifetime commitment.
Starring Sean Bean- a new and creative take on the old tale. I really liked it, no CGI fantasy giant explosion bolts in the neck stuff, just a neat period mystery piece. Gloomy-dirty London again.

This is great news. Did not know there was a season 5 coming.

    Thank you.
