Recommend to me a gentlemans pocket knife

Found in a shop in Zermatt, a non-branded Laguiole intended for cutting Camembert, according to the salesperson there. Why such a sharp knife for such a soft cheese? Who knows. It doesn't really make sense, but I liked the form and the ebony scales. No nail nick, so it's three-handed operation to open it.

Sharp edge is so you can cut radial wedges out. Picnic knife.

Got the Native 5 yesterday. This thing is exactly what I wanted my Griptilian to be. Now hoping to find some slimmer scales for the Griptilian.

Awesome. It's a great model. I love the blade shape. It's a great user. And if you ever want another fancy one, the carbon fiber S90V version comes in stock from time to time and it's also great.

I miss having a small lightweight folding knife in my pocket.

I'd like a Benchmade Bugout but I know from experience that I will lose it, and the price point is too high for me to consider it for my usage.

What I would like is:

one handed open and close
some sort of lock for the blade
compact and lightweight
not so expensive that I will regret buying when I lose it.
Nice if it can be sharp and stay that way for a while

My last pocket knife was an Opinel #6 with a carbon steel blade. It was light and cheap, but not very easy to open or close.

Take a look at the Gerber knives.
Some are really inexpensive and well made.
I have one at work that I bought at the local Walmart for almost nothing. It comes in handy frequently.
It is nearly as useful as knives costing 10 times as much or more.

The Paraframe is super popular among the trades here. Carpenters, roofers, mechanics, excavators, etc. I can't count the times I've seen them. But they usually have the full-sized knife which is logical as there isn't much mini about those guys.

They also like Gerber's multi-tools. I have a Leatherman that I basically got for the folding pliers, but I keep bending the handles. The metal of the jaw is good, but the fold-out handles are weak U-bend steel. Kind of dumb. I think I am going to just get some of Knipex XS plier-wrenches. Only 5" long and in the end probably more easily pocketable than the Leatherman.



But these are not go-to-town things....

Columbia River Knife and Tool makes some good knives with not so horrible prices. Their specialty is every day carry.

A slip joint folder, very strong spring but no lock or detents.

Do you lose it by having it fall out of your pocket or you leave it places accidentally?
Where does your price range max out?
Do you have any preferences on country of manufacture?

You might need something bigger for your needs, but the smaller one works great for me. I've started leaving the leatherman at home when hiking/camping and I take a folder, a fixed blade and these little cobra pliers.

Ended up replacing the scales on the Mini Bugout. I was intrigued (also got an orange backspacer to add). The thumb studs ended up being a hangup for me, as they didn’t protrude out as much as expected. So, what else would you expect - swapped one side out with the studs on my Griptilian. Thumb is much happier now.

Well....I'm done with pocket knives for a while. ~5yrs of picking one up here and there and now my "knife box" is full. I keep them in a locking pistol box so my kiddo doesn't decide to play with them (which I don't think she'd do, we've talked about knives and safety and all that, but, kids are kids.....). This is the one I have, which I've been super happy with FWIW, I did change out the foam tho and cut it so the pistol and knives all have a spot, not just rattling around in there.

Mostly Spydercos, one TRM, one Quiet Carry, almost all of them modified in one way or another. Steels include MagnaCut, LC200N, K390, M390, 20CV, Vanax, SuperBlue, S110V, Maxamet, M4, and XHP. Compression lock, frame lock, liner lock, back lock, and a slip joint.

Speaking of which, for any of the knife guys on here, let me know if you're on the lookout for anything. I want to slim down my collection and could be convinced to sell some.

I pulled a jacket out of the closet yesterday and could not figure out what on earth was in the pocket until I pulled out the Opinel #10 that was hiding there (I thought I had lost it), a great knife for in the garden, a bit much for in the pocket … Opinel #6 is a great little knife with surprisingly good steel and any of the sizes below that.

Be aware though anything smaller than a #6 does not have a lock ring.

Been carrying this guy most days lately. Mini Prodigy from Jamie Simeon. 3" blade, framelock, some barked texturing on the handle scales and milled S35vn blade. Great size and materials for a daily carry knife.
