I built a few of those TT frames for Peter in about 94'.

When I was working at the Australian Institute of Sport I visited Peter on my way back from Brisbane to Canberra and we got Peter to make a few alloy TT bikes. Mal Mac welded those if my memory is correct. The Blue and Yellow bikes were for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. Anna Wilson won the women's TT, I followed her and called her on the radio as per her request.
I did the bike design and the biomechanics was with Dr Brian McLean. Mal welded those and I made the handle bars from crom moly and I got a complete bar and lever weights under 1kg. Half the weight of alloy/carbon junk on the market a that time. Deda and other mobs photographed the bars at the worlds later that year, I got phone calls about all this, intellectual property of the Sports Commission, bahhhh I told them they were dreaming, go sort it out with the big companies, we cannot stop photographs. Crazy talk! Now every one makes small cross section bars and minimal levers so there was no more need to spend 25-30 hours making a set of bars. But crikey I worked some hours doing that stuff.
A pic of Sara Carrigan at the worlds 2002 or 2003? Sara won the RR at 5 ring gig in Athens 2004. Spent a lot of time on the road in Europe with Sara for some years.98, 99, 2000, then moonlighting gigs with her on teams.

I built 3 frames for Kathy watts for the 94, Commonwealth games if memory serves. They were tiny little things and the road frames had to look like Giants as they were her main sponsor.
Mal was one of the best welders in aluminium I have seen, beautiful work. The only reason I got to do these is because I was friends with Peter and Mal was taking a bit of a sabbatical. I had a real busy year that year, running my plumbing business during the week and building frames on the weekend. Boy I learnt a lot that year or so.
Had the pleasure to make some frames for some of Australia's top athletes such as Dean and Peter Rogers, Brad Bevan, Miles Stewart, Peter Milostic, Mary Grigson, Henk Vogels, to name a few.
That was a great experience.

Those were fun days eh! , the A.I.S really hummed back then, but now I am told it is now just shadow of those days. I am led to believe the place is just a ghost town now, I have not been back since 2006. Camps and testing is now just a trickle. How long before it is all to be turned into apartments?

2009, Italy, at the Aussie base, under the team apartments Nico and myself set up the temp workshop leading into the worlds.
This fella with a strong Irish accent called in with a colleague to have discussions with the Aussie management. This fella was bored with all that nonsense and he left his pal to do the chats upstairs and so hung about with the mechanicos .
I made good use of this extra pair of hands with a re-cabling of Tim's bikes.
He looks familiar I am sure I have seen before at a bike race

The last time I had a number pinned on, Late September 1994, France, in Sarthe. Cold, wet and lots of cow shit on the roads. I finished in the first 20 but that is all. Might have got 50 francs for my effort.
Two months later I was living in Canberra in residences at the Australian Institute of Sport setting up the new workshop and equipment for the Aussie Road Team.Heiko was the East German running the show and that was a hell of a ride, a story for later.
it was time to move on, new adventures, chase new skills, new places, new people with gusto. Lots of fun.

Luke drove up this week from beautiful Byron Bay to collect his Llewellyn Cadenzia with Integrated Son Delux lights, Edelux head and Compass tail light. It was an interesting project, machining stainless parts, some tricky operations and all come together sweetly. Luke can be seen cruising around Byron and a lap up to the light house most days.

Justin dropped in this week to collect his Crescendo which was here for a wash and service. It was a nice day, the Pagan Gold and white looked nice in the morning sun, so we took happy snaps while telling stories.

^^^^ Best ever seat stay top treatment.
Thankyou. I was inspired by a Cooper frame that a good friend of mine had. I also recall that Hoffy Cycles in Brisbane did this on the their Roadsters and probably many other builders did the same. I was also informed that the English builders called this the Bianchi style as they did some thing similar.

We had two of them, they wobbled down the road.
Both split in half after some time
Dean Rogers rode this one at the Columbia Worlds 1995. (older brother of Mick Rogers)
This was my first World Champs as an Aussie team mechanico
I had set up out the back of the hotel in the old ball room that was being demolished, dark, dingy and remember we had to fly every thing in.
230 kg of excess baggage from Frankfurt airport. Our old East German mechanic some how sorted this at the gate to board the plane. I still to this day do not how that worked!
Best not to ask questions, just get on with it !
