I'm looking forward to seeing how it seasons and burns. It's supposed to have more BTUs than red oak, and season much faster.

Best winter warmth we ever had was the one after the hurricane. Our house at the beach was on locust posts. After one hurricane we realized that we should raise the house, which we did. We cut up the old locust posts. They burned so well….great heat output and burned nice and evenly and slowly in our soapstone stove which is the only heat source in that home.

Locust is an amazing wood. I worked at an archaeological site where locust posts were used before they were burned. We found more than a couple burnt to ground level with three foot of cracked and pitted, but solid wood still there even after 500-600 years.

Black locust is an amazing thing. A friend cut several into posts to fence in a compost pile. A few of them actually sprouted again. RESPECT.
