I love how both Bernstein and Mehldau are able to completely deconstruct the head while never losing its essence in their respective solos. These are guys who clearly understand Monk's muse.
I'm rather familiar with Mehldau's work, but surprisingly have never heard Bernstein before. Down the rabbit hole I go!

I'm a big Mehldau fan but a couple of folks here turned me on to Bernstein's album "Monk" (all Monk tunes with trio) which is no longer in print and not streamable on Amazon, Spotify, AFAIK. I was able to find a CD and I'm so glad I did. Truly delightful. I caught Bernstein at Mezzrow last time I was in NY and he did not disappoint.
