Yep, my mother was a labor and civil rights supporter, hung out with the likes of Pete Seeger and Adlai Stevenson, lived in the East Village, etc. We learned about the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire, Medgar Evers, coal wars of WVa, the 4 girls in a church ... and the women who died of radiation poisoning in the watch face painting factories. That's my childhood. Plus my dad with a Geiger counter.

But I'd likely crush them doing something stupid outside. They are nice to look at though.
This was my father's watch circa 1969 (I think) so *newer* than those. It had stopped working years ago. I finally got around to locating the right person (https://timeguy.com/) to do the work and ~$180 later, I have a watch that is maybe worth $150? :)

Not really the sort of watch I'll wear every day, but I like it. May try a different strap at some point...

That's a nice looking watch. You shouldn't care if it cost you more than it's worth to fix it because it belonged to your dad! Now you have something of his that works and you can wear it from time to time...no pun intended.

I see a lot of buzz out of the house of Rolex. Anyone know what might be dropping on the 30th?

They're pretty tight lipped. My wife heads to Geneva on the 30th so I'm sure I'll get live reports as she sees the new product at the show.

I hope they don't drop it. Would be clumsy and costly.

It'll be fine, they're introducing the Rolex-Casio collabo, the R-Shock.

There's a few YT videos with theories. Looks like a new Air King, or Milgaus (sp?), otherwise probably just new color/material combos.

I'm still enjoying the Astron. Finally got my Ridgeline back too after it spent 5 weeks in a shop getting repaired after getting clipped.

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?

Jennie Elle had some good theories about what's coming from Rolex.

But as usual, I think Tudor will be the far more interesting release cycle given their nebulous teasers. New Ranger? Some other bits?

Omega x Swatch just dropped and there were crazy lines in London at the stores.

I think it is Rolex x invicta collab dropping.

Before we had a little one in school, I used to go. Baselworld was unlike anything I would have imagined based on photos. I'm curious to hear how this new show is.

I hope they keep a strong actual presence in Switzerland. I think one thing we have learned through the pandemic is that we very well can get work done virtually in many cases, but the work getting done is where it stops. the vibe of an event, the spirit does not communicate virtually. I hope the vendors will not feel pushed to spend more time on their digital content than their in-person presence. I have never attended, but it is a bucket list item.

I look forward to your wife's perspective!

The world needs some destro watches. I'm glad Rolex went a little weird.

My god Jaeger LeCoultre continues to make technically absurd watches and everyone instead will talk about new crown guards on an Air King.

JLC certainly showed up ready to play. Damn. Makes IWC and Rolex look like a joke. IWC has so much potential in the Portugieser and Ingenieur lines...but they're all about different colored ceramics.

You can tell that the pandemic is moving on out as Delta's Sky Club is giving away these mags again...talk about watch porn.
