This was thin-walled Columbus Life tubing, Sachs ÜOS lugs. There is also a Falz fork painted to match.

I'm pretty sure he is and agreed. Getting him to ride a new bike is surprisingly difficult.

Although, in his defense, he'll argue that a) the biggest tire he needs is 33mm, and b) medium-reach calipers work just fine. To which I have not much of an argument.

I'm guessing it's an Aliante and yes, as do I - both looking a little tired. But what great saddles those were: custom leather from Fizik!

Fair enough. Few people can descend like him (still), and it’s not as if he lacks for brakes.

I’m toying with sending (one of) my ti Strada Biancas out for couplers—if I ever had to whittle down to one bike, it would be the one to keep.

I just sent him a pair of TRP RG957s to replace his old Tektros - now he'll descend even faster.

And it wasn't that long ago the S & S couplers seemed to make up almost half or our builds - not any more! I think with rentals getting better that market has declined, imho. Thank goodness for disc brakes, say I.

Btw, I’m thinking ahead to a new road bike. I like that you’re doing the vintage theme bikes, and I’m thinking about a modern rendition of my old Koga Miyata Team Pro. But do I want another blue bike? The Team Raleighs were pretty cool, too. Decisions, decisions...

I’m wondering if the trend toward discs and especially hydraulic disc brakes has been a driver in the decline in popularity of coupled bikes. More to disassemble and reassemble.
