We're about to finish up 11.22.63, the time-traveling show about the Kennedy assassination with James Franco and Chris Cooper, amongst a few others. Still can't decide if it's awesome or totally batsh!t nonsense but, based on the fact that we're about to finish it, it doesn't fall under "terrible."

Also, the new series of Black Mirror is on form and, as usual, prescient as hell.

I'm gonna throw one out there my wife and I just binged: The Imposters, on Netflix. It isn't brilliant or deep, and takes a few episodes to reach its stride, but we found it entertaining enough, much better than typical network fluff.

The book is certainly a fun read.

Santa Clarita Diet, though cancelled by Netflix in what is certainly one of the biggest bonehead moves of all time, is a hilarious show. Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are incredible.

I know I'm way behind but I just started the Sopranos and I'm loving it. I always knew I would but because I missed it when it came out the 7 seasons were daunting to me - I got a season 1 set for cheap and now I'm looking for the rest.

Don't buy them, stream it. HBO Go is like $15 a month. Check out all the other fun HBO stuff while you've got it.

I'm in the UK so don't think I can get HBO - and I pay for Netflix and Prime already so it seems a bit excessive. Don't think the Sopranos is on Prime but the DVDs are cheap and I've been ripping things to a home server so I can stream them in my house which is cool.

My wife and I have been watching Derry Girls on Netflix the past few weeks and it brings quite a few laughs - probably even more if we watched with the subtitles (I'm sure there are little one-liners that we are still missing due to the accents).

We turned on subtitles not long after our daughter was born, for two reasons:
1 - when she's sleeping we don't want to turn the TV up super loud
2 - when she's awake she makes a lot of noise and we don't want to turn the TV up super loud

Anyhow, it's kinda amazing how much stuff you miss without subtitles. Things you wouldn't hear (unless the TV was just straight up blasting), or stuff you just might not pick up on - for example:

In one episode of the Office Michael drives up to work with some music playing, subtitles tells you it's some song by Christina Aguilera. Michael then looks at the camera and says "Brittany's back bitch!"

Without subtitles I'd have totally missed that joke!

We turn off subtitles when watching standup tho, 'cause they ruin the timing.

Yeah, headphones help too. Last night I plugged my Sennheiser Open Backs (I can't stand listening to closed backs anymore - unless I'm mowing the lawn or on a plane) in to watch a few episodes. Much better.

Our downstairs TV is in a little nook, which thankfully enables the headphone cable (after the dog is in bed). The F1 docu-series was also fantastic through headphones.

We've taken my wife's recuperation as an opportunity to pick things on Netflix we might otherwise skip and see if they are worth anything. Netflix can be such a vortex of mediocrity with a ton of same-same food shows, but in the process of looking for anything on Hokkaido or Japan, we started watching Netflix's Street Food series. Like all good food shows, it isn't really about the food. It is about life and relationships and the central place of food, and the show presents this on a very human scale - often right on the curb of the street - with the respect to allow each person to tell their own story without much narration except explanations of the dishes & ingredients by local journalists or writers.

I finally finished Legion. It is a superhero show unlike any superhero show. Actually it is a show unlike any other show. 3 seasons of 8 episodes. Non-stop weirdness and great shots. I never tried to figure anything out but just went along for the ride.

Jemaine Clement rap battle near the end of season 3 is a bonus.

Glow... i began watching w/ my mother yesterday. We could not stop. It´s almost too PCorrect but then the girls in charge are too talented and produce some very good scenes around the B movie/ grindhouse scene of 80s hollywood. Great cast, great dialogue, memorable characters. Highly recommend.

I don’t know if any of you get Acorn TV but there are some truly great shows on there.

Jack Irish is very good and I just finished season 1 of a really good Swedish series called Rebecka Martinsson (sub-titles on!).

Not a series, but Bill Burr's new special, Paper Tiger, is out on Netflix and is fan-dam-tastic. I mean I'm only 20mins in, but it's great so far.

It's a good time for stand up comedy lately!

Just finished series 2/8 of Country Music - A Film by Ken Burns...awesome to say the least, as one would expect from Mr. Burns et al.

His documentaries have usually been good. I watched the show before the show (kind of a preview) and just starting episode 2. I learned some “nasty” things about Henry Ford in the first installment.
