Wilderness/Mt. Light sandwich! All of these guys were bought '95-6, and have 1000's of smiles on them. Best funking kicks they ever made. I usually bathe 'em and give some fresh oil this time of year. Ol' boys look thirsty..

Bad boys club, blue one is the every day/all day. I have taken this thing racing in probably 20 states, chances are if we ever meet, I will be driving it.

and one year later, my left boot's heel disappears into the snow during a leisurely walk through a new hampshire field. didn't realize it was gone until i was back on firm, non-snowcovered ground.

i cannot find any information on wolverine's website about their warranty, so i hope that when i call them tomorrow that i will not be motivated to participate in the grump thread...

here is their solution. good enough i guess...i hope the $50 covers it. i bolded a part that was surprising to me though.

    Hello Sean,

Thank you for your reply and the information you've included.

After carefully reviewing the information you've included, unfortunately, your footwear is now outside of our manufacturing warranty so we are not able to replace your footwear. Also, I see that it was noted in your file that the footwear was used on a hiking trip. We do not recommend using your 1000 Mile boots for outdoor recreational activities as our 1000 Mile boots are made for a business/casual use.

Regardless, we would still be more than happy to help you any way we can! Unfortunately, we do not offer a repair service directly through our company. However, if you visit your local cobbler to have the heel caps repaired, we would be more than happy to reimburse up to $50.00 for the repair.

If you choose to do this, please email us a photo of the repaired footwear and a photo of the receipt from the cobbler. We will then forward this information to our refunds department.

I hope this information proves to be helpful!

    All the Best,

1000 miles, but only if they are on your shitty office carpet. It is very cool of them to offer to reimburse for a repair though. That really does say a lot about them as a company. I can't imagine many other shoe companies offering cash to repair.

That said, it was snowing today and I wore my shearling lined Blondo's instead of my Redwing heritage boots because of their leather sole.

yea, i agree that leather soled footwear is just not made to be used in the snow. besides the obvious leather/water issues, the traction provided by smooth leather would be abysmal in the frozen conditions.

to go even further, i wear leather soled shoes just about every day, and i have a set of RW heritage boots also, and I cant imagine wanting to wear smooth bottomed leather soled footwear on anything other than flat, smooth surfaces. Even wet grass or mud is tough on the soles and even tougher to get traction in.

i'm not throwing stones, just saying that i can see Wolverine's POV on this one, and it's pretty stand-up of them to offer to cover the cost of the heel repair.

You should be able to have a cobbler put new heels on both those boots and clean them up a bit for 50 bucks or so.

Gotta say I'm not surprised. I wouldn't go hiking in my Doc Martens either. Horses for courses. Cool of them to offer to take care of you though.

I wonder how much help a thin rubber sole would be on 1000 miles, I have been thinking about getting some added to my set for wet city use.

Seriously, when I hear the term "1000 mile," it lends me to believe that they are built for a 1000 mile journey.....

Didn't realize that was just marketing babble for, "don't actually use these for intended boot purposes."

I have a pair of these - Wolverine 1000 mile Evans boots. Men - Evans Boot - Black Leather | Wolverine Vibram under the heel and forefoot. There is a picture somewhere up in this thread.

Depending on the stitching used to attach the sole to the boot, a good cobbler should even be able to put a full Vibram sole on those boots. I think they take off the leather sole, stitch on a thin rubber layer and then glue the Vibram sole w/heel to that rubber layer.

Or just buy a pair of Frye Prison Boots. I have two pairs - one is about 11 years old and the others are 7 years old. Re-soled each twice. At least.

with durability as my primary motivator, i'm having a vibram lugged heel put on both boots (full heel, not just a half heel cover), with the corresponding lugged front piece as well.
total should be between $75 & $85 at George's Shoe Repair in the South End of Boston (very friendly guy). we'll see what Wolverine accepts as a fair value reimbursement for the heels given that i'm not just getting one heel installed (leaving the other would've left me with a hop step because it was more worn). and nope, i don't expect them to throw in for the front lugged pieces.

it will look like the duvall, without the rubber throughout the arch. the vastly different aesthetic is not a concern to me as it may be to others.

That sole looks more appropriate for a boot that can allegedly take a 1000-mile journey.
Way cooler than the corporate low-pile carpet-only restriction of the factory stock sole! :-)
