If the process is more important than the result, you play. If the result is more important than the process, you work.
That ad is hilarious, "bouyant blade" FFS. How does the water know what the density of one part of the paddle is?
Thought experiment: attach a chunk of styrofoam to the bottom of a steel bar and put it in the water foam end first. I bet you it doesn't "pop out of the water".

Mark, some progress. Looks like I used to paddle with something similar to the Tripper shape in a tandem boat.
From the source below the Tripper 63 is sized for me and Tripper 60 for Mrs. Too

Chiming in to second the love for carbon paddles. I've got one on permanent loan from my friend Fred, who's won a pile of downriver races, and it's been jammed into the rocks so many times that the tip of the blade is ground off. Still works great. I'll never go back.
Hmmm...a wooden paddle feels so nice in your hands though....

MN 3 ... Wenonah ... Designed for three paddlers and their gear, the 20' MN 3 travels faster, with less effort than most tandems.
I have been pondering this toy for a while. This thread got me back on the website. One of these days ...

I think the design you posted will work best with a palm grip and oval shaft. I am looking at shaft sizes at the moment, it seems that something around 27.5 mm x 32.5 mm will suit you: although I'm not nearly your height I have 2XL hands so I can make a decent stab at this.
Mrs Toots, not so much. Some guidance on hand size would be appreciated.

Will do Mark. She is 5'8" with avg size paws. I'll measure her palm in a few days when we are back in the same zipcode.
FWIIW I ran into an old friend yesterday who happens to live just a few clicks away from where Swift boats are made. He is as mad for canoes as we are for bicycles, alternately rattling off names of canoes he owns as well as priming me with recommends for boats and paddle shapes. He absolutely approves of both the tripper and beaver tail shape and is nuts for the Swift boat I'm waiting for.
Feeling fortunate to have pals like himself and you Mark. How the he!! did I get this fortunate?
