My father died about a year ago, and because COVID complicating burials, we had him cremated. His remains are now in a vase in a side area in his old desk. We haven't really discussed what our next steps will be, and due to the continuing COVID issues and the political situation in Haiti, most of the areas that I think would be appropriate to spread his ashes are really difficult to get to. So I guess we'll just wait a bit longer. The good thing about about ashes is that they keep, and of course he doesn't care what happens to him. (although he would be bummed about how bad things have gotten in Haiti - he was unhappy about that before, and it's only gotten worse)

My MIL died of Parkinson's late last year. Her remains were cremated and placed in an urn my wife made. She was in the Peace Corps in the 60s and we're trying to figure out how to get her ashes to Borneo.

I'm doing a riff on a Viking ship. We're putting just below Lock 8, time delay fuse and that baby's rolling by the time we float by the Dorptown. That'll give 'em sumpin to talk about.

^^^ not unlike what I was thinking … a small wooden vessel, plenty of tinder, family and friends with flaming arrows drawn as I’m pushed away from shore …
