Probably. The thing was a beast, about the size and speed of a Cesna.
At first I thought it was a red-shouldered hawk, but then I realized the tail was all wrong and the body was too stout. Definitely not a red-tailed.
I didn't suspect an owl because it was out in the midday heat & sun, but it must have been been a great-horned owl.

sometimes blackbirds chase the owls out of their nests and harrass them during the day.
