    It definitely needs water (or some other liquid, like a broth) to steam and create pressure. I would imagine a steamed meatloaf would come out kind of like a steamed cheeseburger, probably won't have that crisp on the top. I think a meatloaf is something I'd save for the oven.

    I really like soups, stews, grains, hardboiled eggs, etc in mine. Meats do pretty well if you braze them first IME.

    Pressure cookers make KILLER risotto in no time-saute your onion/diced carrot in olive oil in the pc, add some good rice-I use Botan- and 3 cups of liquid-stock, wine, water whatever. Heat until up to pressure, then 6 minutes. Release pressure and reduce down any remaining liquid while stirring-maybe 2 minutes. Add a bit of butter and parm and mix. Risotto with half the effort.

    I'm the worlds laziest cook. You guys have my attention.

    I'm considering an 8qt instapot. I have a few questions first.

    1. is the interior pot dishwasher safe?
    2. can I chop stuff up, drop it in the interior pot, store it in the fridge overnight and then cook it 30min before meal time?

    I've been told not to do the latter with a crockpot. I guess all that ceramic mass takes a long time to get up to temp, but I figure the story may be a bit different with metal in a pressure cooker.

    1) yes
    2) yes. it will slow things a bit in how long it takes to get it up to temp/pressure. Maybe 5-10 minutes max is my guess...

    The interior pot on the IP is stainless. Should be ok in the dishwasher, but it cleans up in the sink really easily. You’ll need to wash the lid and sealing ring as well. I wouldn’t put those parts in the dishwasher.

    I’ve done this risotto. It’s a little work, but very tasty.

    The broiler step is almost necessary to get the crispy bits. I’ve made the oven recipe that was posted here a while back many times, this is not as good, but close.

    Tossing the pieces quickly onto the grill might get the same effect and not heat up the house...

    That would probably work, but I’d use a topper of some sort to keep it from sticking. Another optio. Would be to give it a little blast with a creme brûlée torch.

    We have had our Instant Pot for about 2mo and I can count on 1 hand how many times we have used the stove since then. Since purchasing the IP we have gone to a more plant based diet. The IP makes it very easy and there are numerous recipes all over the internet. All of us here have a general understanding of how to cook and what goes with what, so easy enough to weed through the garbage recipes. Making jam is so quick and easy. Also tasty. Risotto as some one stated above is amazing! I will no longer make it stove top. The good thing about the IP also is that it will come out perfect every time. As a person that always cooked on the stove and chopped fresh garlic by hand, when using the IP buying the pre-chopped garlic is a huge time saver. Also Better Than Bouillon is a great touch. Purchase one, you will not regret it!

    Did this one. Good and easy with pantry ingredients. Except we used trader joe sriracha ketchup instead, as that is what we had. Added a little spicy kick, which I found to be a positive.

    Looks yummy!

    I'm still addicted to my simple south asian style boneless chicken thighs improvisation with tomatos (canned or fresh), choice of available veggies (onions, red peppers, eggplant, greens (collards are the best but anything works)), curry mix, garam masala, heaping spoon of garlic chili paste. Cook on manual for 24 minutes in the IP, express depressurize and add a container of coconut milk and stir.

    Amazingly good for 6 minutes prep and a half hour total time...

    Made this butternut squash risotto last night. It was great! Didn't look like the picture tho, ours didn't have the big chunks of squash. It did when it was done cooking, but by the time I added the cheese and parsley and stirred it all up the cubes of squash came apart. Really really good tho, will do again. I was worried it was going to come out waaaay too wet, only 1.5 cups of rice for 1 cup of water and 3.5 cups of beef broth. But it didn't, it was just right. We used low sodium beef broth.

    Served it with some roasted broccoli and creamed kale. Really tasty almost vegetarian dinner. Whole dinner took about half an hour to make.
