I'd suggest Alden, in brown calf, suede or shell cordovan (if you feel really spendy). Both the long wing and chukka boot (which is petty low) can be dressed up or down. Not cheap, but great quality and can be recrafted just about indefinitely.

It has been a long time since I had a pair of Quoddy's, but I used to wear them a lot. Either their boat shoe or their ranger. They were never cheap, but they've gotten more expensive over time - at least according to my memory of things. I think they used to make these shoes for LL Bean in fact. Anyway the Maliseet (the ranger model) is crazy now because you can custom order the color of any part of the shoe and specify a lining if you like to wear them barefooted.

Interestingly, some loafers have better retention than some two-eyelet shoes.
You just don't want to have to be inconvenienced by certain features.

Resurrecting this thread because Cole-Haan appears to have discontinued my go-to slip-on shoe, the Tucker Venetian. Great shoe for Italy, very comfortable, looks Italian-esque, works without socks in a pinch, etc. So I've been looking for alternatives and see that Allen Edmonds makes a Venetian slip-on called the Boulder. Remarkably similar right down to the colors. I think the best color overall in terms of goes-with-everything is the honey-colored two-tone, but I also like one of the darker colors. Anyone have a pair of the Allen Edmonds? Reviews? Suggestions? Seems like the Allen Edmonds also comes in widths, so I'll be going to the shop to try them on and see which is which.

This shoe interests me as well. However, when I researched it on Zappos (considerably cheaper than the CH website) I found lots of very poor reviews from the last eighteen months or so. Appears that quality of materials and sizing has changed quite a bit recently and more than a few people disappointed. I'll keep looking for options I think.

I’m a fan of the Merrell jungle moc. The last works for me and it comes in a wide width. They also make a skip on sneaker that is my go to for any sort of non work related air travel. Casual like vans, but has a little more arch support.

I've enjoyed my Johnston and Murphy moccasins with the woven top for many years; I replaced the insoles with cycling ones as I have wide feet with a very low arch.

Checking out their website, it appears they sell about 300 different styles of shoes so if I could figure out what size shoe I own of theirs I might just order a few different styles. My wife thinks my taste in shoes is rather bland but most of my shoes are for work; meant for service, not style. I have a hard time finding shoes that are comfortable so buying without trying them on first seems a bit of a reach for me.

I was looking at the brands suggested by other posters and while I liked what I saw, the prices seemed a bit steep. Then I remembered that my cycling shoes cost way more and I certainly wasn't trying to make a fashion statement with them.
