    I have nothing to add to my prior post on OR the red flag law, as I don't know anything about OH. I'm so sorry to learn of the circumstances. I wish you strength in dealing with this.

    This is a horrible set of circumstances all around, and I'm so sorry you are in this situation. I'm not a criminal lawyer, but I can tell you the general rule is that there is no legal duty placed upon police to protect a member of the general public from harm (as opposed to someone in custody - there is a duty in that case). There may be exceptions to that rule that I'm not aware of. The facts in some of the cases applying this rule are disgraceful.
