Wrestling dropped from 2020 Olympics

I say move track racing to the Winter Olympics. Make 6 Day racing a medal event. Add back all the events that have been omitted from the summer. Madison Keirin Omnium whatever. Run men's and women's events in each. And add cyclocross too. To hell with ice and snow requirement - these are winter sports. Think of all the beer that will get sold!

Make the summer olympics swimming, track & field, road cycling events, mountain biking, canoeing & kayaking, rowing, marathon, wrestling, boxing and cricket (so Pakistan can win something - all nuclear powers have to win something.) That's it.

Pentathlon is so cool. Wasn't it because the Frenchman who brought back the Olympics had been a cavalry officer, and those five events were something a cavalryman should be able to do if caught behind the lines?

Some wrestling officials said that FILA, wrestling’s world governing body, needed to change the sport quickly to retain any chance of future inclusion in the Olympics. Modern pentathlon, for instance, has reduced its competition from four or five days to one day.

The part of this that I think is really unhealthy is the message it sends to all the other sports: either do what it takes to become a spectator sport or face elimination. That's lame. The Olympics have historically been the one major stage for sports that don't ordinarily sell tickets. I'd hate to see that lost.

Yeah, the Olympics have turned into something horrible, garish and commercial for me also. I still watch them every 2 years. Can't help it.

I would hate for wrestling to be dropped though. I cant imagine that rating are that bad across the globe that they (IOC) need to put in things like golf skateboarding and baseball. I don't remember who said it (probably someone on NPR), but he said an Olympic gold medal should be the pinnacle of the sport. If there is another event that means more, then that sport probably should not be in the Olympics. Seems like a pretty good starting point for inclusion to me.

really the spartan guy should have medalled but there were 2 greek judges and one of them had a cousin in the event.
they had to dq the spartan who had pinned the greek to make it all come out right.
i tried to intervene but the spartans protest check for 50 drachmas bounced so, what could i really do?


it is off bullshit to lose this event in the olmpics. it reinforces how shallow this bs really is.
