Lost a friend to breast cancer/brain tumors (after a 4 year battle) this week and my new (old) van isn't charging the battery. Plus a bunch of punks in here ripping on one of my favorite bands;)

I got the call today that my best friend's stepmom lost her decades long battle to cancer on Wednesday evening. His second mom, and in many ways my second mom too. She was an absolute medical miracle in that she survived 7 different types of primary cancer. Her time was simultaneously long overdue and far too short. An absolutely amazing person.

On a lighter note, 3rd between Market and Arch was repaved on Friday. Today PECO was digging a big hole already. They haven't even had a chance to come back and paint lines yet. Coordinate!!!!

I lost a friend a few years back who, despite being born with heart problems, managed to live to the ripe old age of 28. I'll tell you the same thing a good friend told me.

It is a blessing that her death was able to come as a shock to you.

September saw two of my friends die, one of whom left a wife and three kids, and it was witnessed by them all and five of their closest friends and all thier families - 18 kids, total. The other one was found by a friend going to pick them up to go to the 1st one's wake. They were both 45.
Then, my dog died, and I got the flu, and then someone close to me was victimised by a serial sex offender.
September sucked BAD.
I had to get that off my chest.

The treacly blandishment that any/all things can be excused/condoned/allowed if it "Gets more people on bikes.". Buncha' horseshit, that one. Honestly, many people riding bikes just have no business being on one. Many reasons why they don't...but they just don't..and it's a cruel and aggravating lie to purport that they do...or that it's necessarily a Good Thing that there are more bikes on the road...or even being produced.
