Yup, Cody is right that the Chinese-made Danners are junk.

Eric is right that crepe soles are good for standing on flat surfaces like shop floors and construction sites, but they're not good for hiking in uneven terrain.

I haven't used them (yet), but I like the looks of the Limmers for hiking boots.

These are made in USA. I'm trying my best to buy most things that I can from this country.

I have a pair of Limmer's for that- and similarly, they suck for standing around on concrete (too hard, no need for the lugged sole, etc).

I love well made boots, but they are not all interchangeable.

I stand corrected, I paid no attention to the soles. the Danners I have are the lugged vibram soles. Either way, the Danners don't fit me well either.

Whilst snooping on MKii Watches website I noticed their recommendation of the Maxmadco Pen... simply beautiful. Unfortunately they only ship to the US so I am out of luck on this one. You lucky people in the US should partake though...

    Tom,

Those are great pens. Idea...have it sent to my house and I'll forward it to you. Seriously!

Drop me a note at musgravecycles AT gmail DOT com and we'll work out the details.

Edit: Alternatively there's about a dozen students here headed to Soul over Christmas break...could have one take it with?

@Musgravecycles - glad you like the pens and you are, sir, far far too nice. I think VS is probably one of the friendliest sites I read.

Anyway I actually like the pen so much I dropped the guy an email and he will actually ship it for base USPS prices so I really don't have to trouble you.

Just as a matter of curiosity, why are they coming to Seoul over Christmas? I have to say the weather is painful - nearly deadly for an ex-Londoner - and I barely make it through the winter? Are you coming as well as would be happy to show you a few secret BBQ joints...

    Thanks again for the kindness.

Went into JCrew, APC, Hugo Boss, Levi's, Club Monaco, In God We Trust, Rag and Bone, and a few other places I can't recall. I just want a winter coat. Can't find anything I like. Linked one a page back, but J-Bag says I should get something longer. Ugh.

JBag is right. That thing is too short. What do yo need your coat to do for you, aside keeping your delicate self from freezing to death?

Nah, son. I wear black thermals under everything. Catch me at home during the winter; I look like an off-duty ninja.

I really don't need to be imagining that visual. Bastard.

Check out Filson for something practical.

Check out Belstaff if you want to look like a British dandy.

Glad it worked out for you. I've heard nothing but good about those pens!

Day job - I work at a small private Christian boarding academy, we've got a decent number of Korean students. Most don't go home for Christmas break but some will.

Unfortunately as they are Korean even if they come home they will be working like machines as well back here. I feel sorry for any kid enrolled in the Korean education system.

what style are you looking for? sporty, classy, puffy, dressy, hipstery, ghettoey, fashiony? then consider, waterproof, snowproof, puke-proof, taxi-proof, christmas proof, theft-proof, tourist-proof, ridicule-proof, and praise-proof.

This always seems to be the best that I can come up with, works with black thermals, and doesn't have a hood with fur around it.

Made in Canada, goodyear welt sole. $149

I've been looking for a reasonably priced nice Canadian made set of boots. Next to impossible...unless I want some cowboy boots. Yuketans are nice, but pricey. I'll wear them for a bit with the white sole, then have them swapped out for something not white. Ideally I'd be in love if these were a nice dark brown and a black vibram sole.

With use, some leather treatment and a resole you'll be there.

ha timing. I was looking at your 28'er on your flickr today and noticed your similar moc toe boots.

A semi copy of your 28'er is what I am aiming for with my first frame build. A lugged version to get my feet wet, hopefully with the lugs it will be a usable frame instead of a frame shaped object.
