for me, the more stable geometry suits the ride of big oversize steel a little bit better than it would aluminum. the steel frame feels just as planted as the corsa, but it does have a slightly different road feel. i am using really big pipes on the inox- the bike does not flex- but it is a bit heavier and does have a different feel. please bear in mind though this is a question of nuance, and we're really talking about intangibles here. in act, i could very well be imagining the differences in feel between the two materials.
what i can tell you is that given the diameters of steel tubes, (the smaller seat tube, the smaller bottom bracket shell, the smaller stays- i can get more tire and mud clearance with the inox than i could with a corsa keeping the geometry consistent. in order to get the weight and rigidity where i want it, steel allows me to use physically smaller tubes and achieve more clearance.. this is just a small thing- but the small things add up.
Thank you Craig- but why stainless vs some more standard oversize steel tubing?
