If you’re picking up big stuff make sure you have weight hanging off the back end. I almost flipped a bx tractor cause I thought the mass at the back end was sufficient. Had to add 4-500 pounds to the rear hitch to make the FEL safe and functional.

The rear tires are filled and the Kioti tractor I decided on weighs 800lbs more than the Kubota equivalent. As a result its lift rating is 1800 lbs. But I am getting a weight box in the near future. I’ve got enough rocks here that I just need a box to hold a few.

The tractor is coming with a front loader and snow plow. Everything else is going to be ancient technology. Back blade, loader forks, weight box, York rake. So I’ve been keeping an eye out for yard sales and things on Craig’s list.

He should rent a mini-excavator. That’s the perfect tool there. Just remember where the gas line is, etc.

I spent a bunch of time debating a backhoe. But that would have meant getting a smaller tractor to be able to afford both. A friend here in Hillsdale just got a Kubota mini-excavator, and he said don’t get a backhoe just hire me. So that allowed me to get the tractor that was better suited for what I need here.

LOL renting a machine was the discussion last eve. after a considerate beer or two. Consensus was we wear big boy pants here. The job is the reward. There is generally a ice creme reward after these things.

Jake, what is the lift ability for that thing? If I have not asked before what is the brake situation? That "cute" Kubota I borrow has a pretty terrible brake. You get good at using the bucket or stabilizers to keep from sliding around.

Lift capacity is 1835lbs. Tractor itself is 2690lbs with the front loader adding 959lbs. Braking is wet multi disc.

*Might need parking brake adjustment?

Haven’t thought about it for years, but now I recall that dad trained us kids to use the bucket as an extra parking brake. Not sure if he was responding to a brake issue with our kubota, or just as a best practice.

I was taught to never leave a load or bucket off the ground when you park a tractor. Same thing for fork lifts, never walk away with a load suspended. This past summer, we rented a Cat skidsteer twice for our property. The first time to mow and auger the holes for our entry fence. The second time was to mow and fix our driveways. Summer of 24, we're augering out holes for another wood fence. We have a huge piles of 20' poles from a dismantled equestrian cross country course.

Yes but I’ll build something in the spring.

One person. Not hard. It was the first thing I did.

I did dent the garage with the roll bar. Now I have a reminder to put the roll bar down before driving into the garage.

That setup looks great. And I love the way modern attachments are designed for easy swaps. Every time I use one on Dad’s little John Deere I’m impressed at the lack of cussing from either of us.

I know. I literally said to myself Take down the roll bar before you park it in the garage. And then I went drove straight in and whacked the garage. Probably will need an extra screw to keep the wasps from setting up shop in the siding. On to the next thing.

I've got a looong story about a Ti bike I worked on for one of my athletes. It had a squeak ;) Long story made short is after disassembling the entire bike and doing alot of soul searching I popped the headset and discovered that the HT was ovalized slightly. My athlete admitted that they had driven the bike into their garage and hit it on the overhead. Subesquently, sent the bike back to the maker for inspection. Humph.
