Yes, but you're still young. I've had my '97 993 since December '96, so 20 years +. Drove it today just to pick up some wine and it was still a blast. Enjoy that thing! Tim

23 years ago, I told my wife my midlife crisis would be a Carrera 4. Imaginary me has been enjoying it all this time.

I still kind of wish I still had my 2004 GT3. With R compound tires on the track, that thing was something. On the road, it was truly too much. But it was the real deal, with a racing pedigree dry sump motor, no nanny aids and a real man's transmission. It wasn't one of the watered down sissy cars that wear the Porsche marque today.

It was a phase, like many things. It was too much car for the road and there were many far less expensive cars better suited for the track. Even though you have one of the new tame porsches, it is still too fast for the road.

The gulf livery endurance racing 917s and the ridiculously spectacular can am 917s were insane machines from a bygone racing era.

I know nothing of what you folks speak because I drive a Volvo and a Chevy Silverado 2500 crew cab diesel that has been lifted. In fact, I just sorta stumbled across this thread.

But I do know that there is a race track in my town up north that used to hold Formula 1 races on it and that I fat bike on in the winter.

Well, in the warmer months there are weekends where all you see in town are a gazillion Ferraris of various vintages and there are loud noises emanating from the track's neck of the woods.

On other weekends there are a bajillion Porsches and the same thing.

Two Monday nights ago it had been raining all day and I suggested to Mrs Water Dog that we go out for dinner.

We went to Milly's because they "prepare our food with love". Of course that is said in French.

Milly, caters at the race track. Hence the checkered flag over her establishment.

Well, on a rainy Monday a bunch of folks must have been just lead footing around the track a bit and decided to imbibe in town. I don't think they minded that they were driving "new tame" Porshes because they seemed to be having a rousing good time.

So, since we have such awesome cycling both road and trail, I think it would be great if any of you brought your "new tame" or old wild Porsches to my neck of the woods and you drive than we'll ride.

I raced "virtually" (i.e. on the Grand Prix Legend online simulator) on that St-Jovite Mont Tremblant race track. A really nice and fun track full of elevation changes. AFAIK it was used in F1 only two or three times in the late 60's but it hosted a number of Can-AM / formula 5000 or TransAm events.

I was just thinking that looks like Tremblant, then checked your location tag. Been a few years since I was out there but it's pretty neat to recognize a road as one I've cycled before! Thanks for the tip on Milly's, I'll be sure to check it out next time I'm in the neighbourhood!

ok, more abuse for you guys. its a 911 GT1 evo/Gunnar G-99. I had to talk with the main man at Gunnar Racing via email to figure out exactly what this car was.

It was at the Steve McQueen/Boys Republic car and motorcycle show out in Chino Hills, CA yesterday. good little event. Fittingly, one of this car's drivers was Chad McQueen. Very cool.

aint that the truth. :)

i think there were more standard GT1's with round headlights than GT1 EVOs. I just wish that they had opened up the back end to see the engine. Strangely, Steve McQueen's Jaguar XKSS was sitting next to it....and getting A LOT more attention.
