Social Distortion tonight.
Yeesh. Forgot about Rory Block in October.
These shows are equally split between the Van Dyck here in the Dorptown where its table seating, no chairs are more than 30 feet from the stage and they make their own beer and the Egg in Albany where I joined up so I'm getting in the first or second row as soon as they send the pre-sale email except the John Hiatt show is in the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
I so like small venues. We went to SPAC to see Joe Bonamassa's Three Kings show (I was surprised I liked it as much as I did but I'm a sucker for any band with a horn section and three women singing backup plus his piano player is really good) and being even thirty rows back felt out of touch.
Blonde Redhead 3rd week of Sept.
First live show in about 3 years.

The other night, I went to see Sturgill Simpson (who I've been obsessing about, along with the expanse of the universe and what does it all mean? and whatnot) alone (because I just blew my friend wad on my birthday the night before), and I was close to passing out (six day work week, see also: aforementioned birthday), when he pulled out this cover (which I've also been obsessing about), and my brain was like "Whuuuuuuuuh?!?!?!?!?!?!?"
Thanks, Sturg.

Ha ha ha. Two more, next March and April, at the Egg. Beth Hart in March, David Bromberg Big Band in April.
Stanley Jordan at the Van Dyck was really something. I've never seen guitar technique like that. Both hands on the neck, each striking notes for two distinct parts. There was a keyboard set up on stage and I thought OK, he's going to bring someone else out. Nope. He wanders over to it, sits down and plays his guitar with his left hand and the piano with his right. It wasn't just a gimmick, either, it made absolute sense with the songs he did that way. A peculiar fellow with a style, how shall we say, all his own but a musical genius no doubt.
