It's Friday, it's a 3-day weekend, and I just finished up my big piece of job-work for the week yesterday. Friends visiting tomorrow. Finishing building up the 2014 CX rig this weekend and taking it for the maiden voyage. As long as the rain holds off enough to squeeze in a few rides this should be a good weekend.

My wife has agreed to provide sag support for a two day September 20/21st C&O Canal Towpath ride, signed up for the September 7th Oxon Hill century with two friends, heading into a four day weekend, hoping for 400+ miles of riding.

You may have noticed the season of football is underway. My son's senior (high school) year. Second year starter at left tackle. Kickoff tonight at 8. Turned his ankle during a scrimmage two weeks ago. Ankle seems ok, he seems ok. Playing their big rival right out of the gate.

Pretty sure I'm more nervous than he is. Holy shit does time fly. Go Knights!

My daughters are both in new schools and start next week. My wife and I feel like we've hit the jackpot with two great public schools.

I had a great time at both of our 20th reunions. My dad was right--10 years isn't long enough to fix the dickheads, but 20 years of life's abrasion can smooth out a lot of rough edges.

Been a rough year off the bike which has dented my desire to suffer for big events (which was always my definition of fun).

But it's coming back. And after so many years swearing off any type of team affiliation because of the drama and frustration usually involved, I'm riding for the Crosshairs Team. There are tons of faster guys getting on the podiums, but I like to think I at least bring a never say quit attitude to the team. Mostly, I like the team vibe and the no BS factor. Looking forward to sporting the kit for this weekend's SM100.

as much as i am frequently put in a rage when a cyclist dies in a car accident, rage mostly because of the lack of accountability and dismissive victim-blaming attitude that follows, but i have to say i'm glad we don't have the fatality numbers that people in cars do.

On Monday my daughter arrived in the Mideast for her fall semester abroad. Thirteen weeks of immersion in Arabic, the history and the society. She’s living with a Palestinian family and is totally stoked.

I’m bursting with pride and admiration. How did I manage to raise this wonderful young person?

Grump: the fork on my track bike has cracks on the inside of the crown.
Ungrump: The manufacturer is replacing it and there are rental bikes at the track.

Was able to get a new battery for the moto at a spot 10 min away from the office yesterday afternoon. Hooked it up last night and put it on the trickle charge . Good fast starter motor sounds this morning. Plenty of juice to make sparks come out of the plugs at the right time. It looks like it has been 2 years on this one, but it seems like a lot less.

I had the biggest mileage week I've had since Feb of 2013 and am nearly finished on two mountain bikes that need to get up in FNL. I dropped two pounds too, and best of all we may have found my mother in law a place to live.
