Its Friday, no grumping. While fall won't come to Central Fl for 4-6 more weeks you can tell its on way. If you've to a little extra oomph to do something nice for someone else give it a shot. There are people who need it. Kindness is contagious, infect somebody.

I've ridden twice in the past 2 weeks.
    My wife has strep.
I slept on the closet floor last night.
My Red22 kit was lost by UPS.
Child support check is 2 weeks late. Last month the check that was sent was hot.

    Fuck it.

    It's Friday.

After some hubbub and perhaps a kerfuffle, Boston Magazine adjusted their Private School Rankings, moving my daughter's alma mater from #2 to #1. In my capacity as a board member's spouse, I say: Woo-hoo!

More seriously, I haven't talked to my kid in over a week. But I know she's alive because she's posting photos like this on her blog:

That's the Jordan River valley out there.

I've got a full bottle of argon and a box of mitered tubes. Everything else is just everything else right now. There will be a new cross bike in 48 hours.

I put the bulk of the cash on the barrel and answered every question with "I trust you, do something awesome and have fun". I have little clue what it's going to look like, and I couldn't more excited.

My mom and dad are motorcycling in the Alps and Dolomites on a BMW K1600GT. A few weeks ago, I bought them a TCI map of the Dolomites and a Berndtson and drew them a little tour map based on my bike rides. My mom keeps texting me with pictures and little texts with lots of exclamation points. So far this week they've done the Grossglockner, the Tre Cime de Lavaredo, Giau, the Sella ring, and the Gavia. And tomorrow they're riding the Stelvio.

    So happy for them.

Two days of cross this weekend in Baltimore. I'll get destroyed, but it'll be a blast. Look for the dude in the decapitated unicorn kit (spooky) - he'll accept your beer handups.

I skyped with my daughter. She shared the live view of the Jordan Valley at night.

It's a very small victory (and I can't call it that for a long, long time) but I have gone a full week without any soda/pop (as we called it in WI growing up). I've been addicted since my freshman year in college and have tried a few times to quit but have never been successful. I've been drinking Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi in unhealthy quantities for decades and last week when my refrigerator was empty I ran off to Target to get some and thought, "This is as good a time as any" and I bought a Keurig coffee machine instead. It may be a case of 'out of the frying pan and into the fire' but I don't think so. First, coffee occurs naturally. Diet Coke doesn't. Second, I've been getting by with a max of two cups per day and mostly just one. Tonight was a struggle. We had a 5-day trip and finished with a challenging flight from LGA-ORF and were delayed and I could've used that can of DC on the last leg to perk me up.

It's been a week and now my counting will go in weeks and not days. There are other addictive substances to be conquered next, but this is a start. Word has it these 'diet' drinks are full of all sorts of bad stuff and hopefully I don't regress. I feel good I've made it a week.

In other news, I got to look at rural Virginia from on high the last few days and it was good. We flew over the Ballers route coming in from Memphis to Philadelphia a few days ago and flew right over Charlottesville. Tonight we watched the the last hour of sunlight into Roanoke and the valleys and shadows and sunlight were nice, just as we descended below the lowest layer. It was a week of good views and good pics. Exhausted but finished with my trip, so I'm happy. This was a tough week, for a bunch of reasons.

This was going into Roanoke this evening, right before sunset. The pics don't do it justice. The light and shadow and the many shades of green were good for these few seconds. Reality was way better.

I'll call it good and worthy of not grumping. It's after midnight so I can post this.

They are talking 80 degrees here this wknd, I am absolutely thrilled! Whilst making plans w/a young lady friend for sailing Saturday, I mentioned the forecast, and she excitedly said " I can wear a bikini !!" I said: "Nope". Not sure she got it, but she will.

I've overslept the last two mornings and missed riding, but hey - it was mostly raining all night and lightening anyway. Still got a run in today.

I'm going to SF for 5 days w/ 2 really good friends for "work". It's going to be a good week.

The pre-loved Nucleons I picked up this summer are now sorted, shod in 25mm Veloflex, and were taken on a shakedown early this morning.

2nd grade camping trip this weekend. Any grown-up wantin' a wee nip of Bulleit before turning in, you know where to find me.

My wife got accepted for the call center at REI, and then got accepted for a tutoring position. Now if only that government job would come through...
