^Thanks for the heads up! I searched for the documentary last week. Would never have expected Netflix to pick it up. Haven't been on Netflix since subjecting myself to the 3rd season of You. So, weekend is looking like a Sparks and Squid Games binge.
As for Tori, she's a fascinating artist. I used to dismiss her as a mainstream Bjork but over the years, she's revealed herself to be as or more eccentric.
Not sure why but I've been listening to Alice in Chains Unplugged for weeks now. over and over and over.
Just turned on to these guys by a friend, don't know why I wasn't aware of then until now.
The older I get the faster I was Brian Clare
Amusing trivia: When I was 13 years old I looked exactly like Sparks' guitarist Adrian Fisher did in the photo on the back cover of Kimono My House. Exactly.
(edit: Weird, for some reason the picture doesn't show up in my post. It's this one: http://graphikdesigns.free.fr/adrian...her-guitar.jpg )
Meanwhile, this week I've been listening to Animals As Leaders
...as well as the new Porcupine Tree single
...and a lot of vintage Pat Martino (RIP)
I've been on an Unknown Mortal Orchestra kick lately. I'm taking a morning break with Aimee Mann before probably listening to Multi-Love again this afternoon.
Dan Fuller, local bicycle enthusiast
I just realized I missed these two together.

Damn!
Full disclosure: I went to college in Tennessee
When the weather starts to turn colder, music from Jamaica warms my soul.
I am listening to Haim's album, Women in Music, and trying to figure out if they are pop geniuses or if they are just hook-master-button-pushing-demographic-savvy...well, pop geniuses. But are they good? They sound good. Mostly? And they are pretty clearly talented. I'm a sucker for catchy tunes. But I don't know. Don't come for the lyrics except as percussion. It is kind of like they memorized their parents' entire album collection from the 1970's and 80's note for note and then ran it through a current moment strainer. Man from the Magazine sounds a bit like Joni Mitchell. Summer Girl sounds like Lou Reed played backwards, complete with Walk on the Wildside toot tooting and sax.
This rocks seriously. Seems like they are two bands. One that records and one that performs.
Kids these days. Speaking of which, Neil Young has a new album out.

Jorn,
I was kind of where you are this spring. It took me a couple months but I've come to the conclusion that Haim are really really really good. They made 2 really good pop albums, and then WIMP3, which is excellent, full stop. You think they don't know their influences, from Lou Reed to Stevie Nicks? C'mon. Don't be the Man From the Magazine! They kick ass in concert, turning pop into rawk, although I've only "seen" them on YouTube.
And Alana is about to become a movie star. Which is both really cool and really weird.
GO!
p.s. They make videos too. You don't think Paul Thomas Anderson found Alana in the phone book?
GO!
Have to agree, Haim is really good.
No I think they totally know their influences. Really smart, really talented. I was just reading some more about them. One of them has a Musicology degree. The other was a studio musician and tour guitarist for several other groups. They all have played instruments since childhood and their family had a band and then they had their own band and did lots of bar mitzvahs and played in empty bars. So I don't think anything here is accidental. Dues payed, chops earned.
That Tiny Desk performance - how many instruments are they each playing? And it sounds like a cut made while recording an album. How polished is that?
Women in Music is definitely their best album, I agree. I downloaded it from iTunes and there are some "extras" at the end that might actually be some of the best songs. And after listening to it in the car driving back from the grocery I was whistling one of the songs while cutting kindling.
No no no doubt here that they are pros and good at it. And they've got all the meta-irony working too. My "incredulity" was more an exaggeration than doubt.
