Instead of a reverse gear, you get a rotating drivers seat.

RW, I sort of have a thing for flatbed conversions. But it has to be the older, simpler style like you’ve found, with or without Yosemite Sam “back off!” mud flaps.

I like it! That’s the best reason for a car that only does 28mph for 75min!

Rambler spotted near house returning from ride, relatively small car, front quarter panel tag is "American", tag on rear "Custom" so not sure what model this is, pretty rare regardless.

That glove box door is a winner. Ah, the bygone age of well-designed interiors with metal panels.

This is an automobile that'd be worth havin'.

    I found https://auto.howstuffworks.com/1958-...r-american.htm

And this is from the link...

In March 1960 came the new Custom series. Its features included color-keyed upholstery, custom steering wheel, full wheel discs, carpeted floor mats, dual horns, and bigger tires. Perhaps the most intriguing item on the Custom was a 125-horsepower six-cylinder engine. It had the same bore and stroke dimensions as the engine in Deluxes and Supers but featured overhead valves and a compression ratio raised to 8.7:1. Because of space problems, air conditioning wasn't available with the ohv six.

BWM Isetta. They made these from 1955-1962. So the latest ugly BMW is not their first.

Oh, I like the Isetta! It straddles the ugly/charming line. I never realized how much of a crap catcher that shelf behind the seat is, though. That could be a problem.

I love to see one getting used. Up in Yosemite 30 years ago there was a whole rally's worth of them. I've ridden around in one at the Larz Andersen mini- and microcar day. Hilarious.

Twice this week I've driven a Tesla. Forgive me for I have sinned.

I'll spend the next few hours thumbing thru old issues of Hot Rod magazine to cleanse my self.
