I don't know if I'm annoyed, thankful, or both. A Wahoo Kickr was ordered months ago and recently arrived just in time for the sun to come out and snow to clear off all but the highest trails. Simultaneously, my wife has been called back into school to teach a limited size class but my kids will not be returning this school year so the only mid-week riding opportunities I have are on the Kickr.

My former-boss-now-subordinate has been long suffering from a chronic degenerative disease. Her cognitive function is declining. Looking back on emails from a year ago show a totally different person. Yesterday we had a discussion why it was appropriate to multiply by 1.83 rather than divide by 0.83.
It's a terrible situation all around. I'm struggling with a team member who is operating at full capacity but still behind the mark. Lots of emotions - frustration, sadness, guilt (I feel like her decline has been a significant part of a very career-positive year for me), even just navigating the change in roles has been awkward. She needs the job to stay healthy. I wish we lived in a country where her biggest concern right now is which movie she was going to watch with her grandchildren. I owe her tremendously for her faith in me. We were the oddest couple one could imagine, but we kicked ass. It sucks to see someone with such a big personality withering away. Every time I get frustrated, I feel bad about getting frustrated - it's not her fault.
I woke up this morning with Jorn's eye globs. A lunch time martini solved the problem.
Now I am staring at a bike that needs a new chain, cassette and tires.
Maybe another martini...
You and her have my positive wishes as well, defspace.
For those of you who live with ticks—what about your own flock of guinea hens to eat those little buggers?
Coyote and bobcat fast food. But yeah, might be worth a try at some point. They aren’t like chickens. You have to train them to come home so you can lock them up at night. Otherwise they tend to overstay their welcome at the neighbors. We’re doing a lot of tick habitat removal within 50-75 yards of the house - where we will spend most of our time. By “we” I mean the landscape architect and her gardeners. Plus paths through the woods. But once we finish we might try other more entertaining approaches. There are guineas (and chickens and ducks) down the road and they are an amusing sideshow on evening walks.
This time of year the male Canada Geese that feel they have something to prove are the thing that most makes me apprehensive when I'm out for a ride. Dogs you can reason with. Those birds, there's no talking to them.

Not Thursday, push-ups forthcoming...but my locked OneUp rack was stolen off the hitch today right in front of my house in broad daylight. Argh.
Having some fairly extensive sinus and nasal surgery tomorrow. The grump component: will be off the bike for two weeks minimum (doc says three but what do they know?). Work is busy AF so no real opportunity to slow down other than the day of the procedure. The good things: Have not been well for several months so it will be nice not to have the right side of my head filled with pus. Plus it will also fix some chronic problems that may have been impairing my aerobic capacity. 'May' is the key word there. Hope to be posting in the Friday thread about improved performance in a couple of months.

The AC compressor on my car blew up on the first 80 degree day of the year.
Uncle Joe giveth and the car repair shop taketh away.
Probably cheaper to make a suicide vest and replace the C-4 with freezer packs.
I'm getting grumpy at the "everything is backordered" status lately. seems like everyone is behind for months or longer. i cant complain too much because none of this is stuff i need to make a living or keep me healthy and alive, but it's still annoying.
Every day at work is an adventure to see what will be delayed or just not show up. Some delays are due to shipping, some are due to vendors not having labor (lumber mills), and others due to a trucker shortage. Things you never expected to run out of, you run out.
