Im going to start a thread called movies that suck i can guarantee it will have hit 5 pages by midnight tonight
obviously there aren't many movies that don't suck
St. Vincent. Further proof that Bill Murray is a genius.
Whiplash... isolation, suppression, vindication, perfection, jazz, life.

Little Big Man, starring Dustin Hoffman. :)
Made my wife watch Terminator 2 last week. She'd never seen it...how is that possible?
Talk about a time-warp back to the 90's haha.

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?
"The One I Love"
If you liked the TV show LOST, I think you'll like this movie. If you in the mood for a traditional, feel-good movie, this isn't it.
Whisky Galore!
During WW2 a ship with 50,000 cases of Whiskey runs aground off the coast of the Outer Hebrides. The poor island has been whiskeyless because of war rationing and all sorts of mayhem breaks out.
In the north, Whiskey is the water of life and a life without whiskey isn't worth living....
Hilarious in an old fashioned way....
Just watched "The Raid 2" and it made "Lethal Weapon" and "Die Hard" look like kid's movies. Was raw. Poor on the plot, but didn't need one really.
Cottage cheese for dinner, Greek yogurt for dessert, eat that everyday an' it will make your butt hurt.
Latest movies I like, Fury with Brad Pitt and American sniper. AS was interesting as the theater was dead silent afterwards, not a word.
Loki E. Loki
Not new but "Her" really moved me. Makes me want to drop all the internet stuff really. Scary. It's a great movie I think.
Whiplash and American Sniper were very good, technically speaking, but "predictable" in a way (even if I didn't know Chris Kyle's story/death which made it a bit more surprising/shocking)
I saw "Killing Them Softly" recently on Netflix and liked it a lot - Brad Pitt is great in it. Some nice shots too. Recommended.
Sorry, Whiplash was a flaming pile of dog shit.
I was unable to put into words how wrong it gets music (jazz and drumming specifically, but really every aspect music and musicianship).
Here's a pretty solid argument:
“Whiplash” Gets Jazz All Wrong - The New Yorker
Belongs in the "sucks" thread.
Got some cash
Bought some wheels
Took it out
'Cross the fields
Lost Control
Hit a wall
But we're alright
I have no musical sense whatsoever WRT criticising "Whiplash" on that level. To me, it was like watching two hours of someone getting punched in the face. You can make a "good" movie of someone getting punched in the face, I guess, but it doesn't mean I want to watch it.
And my yeoman understanding of how human beings are motivated is really, really, REALLY at odds with the entire premise of the film. Rarely does being a sociopath engender talent.
Edit: +1 on "The One I Love." neat premise, different.
Phew, glad someone felt the same way. I've played percussion, jazz specifically, for the better part of the last 15 years and so I had a lot of people pushing whiplash my way. From an acting perspective, I thought it was alright, but the music was so wrong. So so wrong. I'm not sure what the hell he was doing trying to play "double time swing" but that sure as hell wasn't it. I've had more than my fair share of rough band directors at the pro and semi-pro level, some who even threw stuff (not chairs) in my direction, but none were anything like the Fletcher character. I suppose the argument could be made that he was directing a "competition" band, but it was just plain wrong. Bands just aren't run like a Blackwater special ops team. I'm not sure exactly where I'm going with this rant, but I've also run out of things to say. Music is about feeling and passion and conversations that one musician has with another through playing.
Decent acting, garbage portrayal of music. That article hits the nail on the head, Chase, Buddy Rich?
