Twowheels, are those the Tufo Flexus tires? If so, how do you like them. I just ordered a set, but had a hard time deciding between those and the low pressure whatevers.

you didn't ask me, but I'll answer anyway because I've gone though a lot of those tires. The Tufo Flexus is really a god aweful tire. the Flexus is Tufos attempt to make an aggresive tread for slick conditions. By complete accident, it's a tire horrible in wet off camber grass, but fast as hell on dry courses. They'd be my go to tire in dry conditions if they weren't so darn fragile. It's common to get punctures right in the top of the tread as if the tire has been opened with the sharp end of a bottle opener. I quickly got to the point where if i punctured one, i didn't try to seal it with Stan's and simply threw it in the garbage like it was swoop's vest. Stay away from the Flexus and exchange 'em for some Grifos.

I'll answer too. Yes, they are flexus. Even though I'm anything but a tufo fan, I got 3 because my buddy coylifut(Terry) recommended that I get them as fast dry weather tires. He actually got them for me and no shino i did not pay terry in kittens. I glued them on my go fast dry weather wheels, some of the great nucleons. I like them for early season dry cross races. I haven't punctured one yet although I've seen a number of them blow. When I do, I still have one in reserve. They are the best of any tufo imho (which is really not saying much as tufos generally suck).

I have to go with Terry and recommend griffos, which cost less, are much more supple, and work better if there is any moisture in the ground. However, the flexus seem to work well for dry fast races. I'll be riding mine at seatac on monday, which is a sand pit. I'll probably also run them at krugers if it stays dry. Terry would do so too if he hadn't blown his to pieces in the gravel pit race we have in October.

Does anyone find the Grifos squirrely? I haven't ridden them, but I did hear somewhere that the sidewall is so soft, they can feel a little loose if not pumped up tight.

Steve, it's all about finding the right pressure for you. Griffos are awesome tubs. But, you have to experiment with pressure yourself. You can use other people's "optimum pressure" as a potential starting point, but don't use their findings as gospel. Everyone will find a different setting that works for them. Just don't make the mistake of going over 30 psi.

Speaking of tire pressure, given the low psi for cross tubs and the vagueness of many floor pumps, what are you using for pressure gage?
Even using the same pump, the steps can be so 'coarse' that I'd suspect it easy to vary by five pounds at the same reading.

zank I got one of those and its one of the great additions to my tool box. the gauge is incredibly accurate down to the .1 of an lb, absolutely fantastic for cross or mtn bike tires. one warning guys, you have 2 choices of battery pack--less expensive nicad and much more expensive NiMH. PLEASE be sure to lay down the big green for the better battery pack. it is well worth the money. its holds a much larger charge and the will last eons longer than the nicad.
