There's a contracting crew at the house and they have James Brown on the box and they're trading off choruses and screams as they work. I love it. It's quite a crew, all day they've been bantering, singing, bantering with the dog walkers on the street, today has been great.
Tom Ambros
Not new, but new to me. So good.
Was recently introduced to Viagra Boys (Thanks Youtube!)
I don't think I've ever heard drummer Terri Lyne Carrington playing something with such a muscular backbeat before, but man, she is throwing down tha funk! Great re-imaginings of some of Herbie Hancock's most iconic recordings:
Nice! I've been a Jamie XX fan since living in my van in PDX and hearing a The XX song on OPB. "Gosh" is great, and funny enough, it came out the speakers at Venn Brewing in Minneapolis last night. :)
Now I'm drinking beer on the train entering Michigan, listening to Paul Jacobs, an artist Spotify introduced me to this morning after I played "Fuzz Jam" by The Lazy Eyes.
Edit: that video made me think of Raleigh Moncrief, so I have to hear this now.
Edit 2: I often mix up that songs name with Jonti's "Flesh of Morning", so now I'm listening to that.
You reminded me that somebody recommended their "Shrimp Sessions" to me, so now I'm listening to that. Thanks cs124/YouTube!
I'm pretty sure my neighbor across the street recommended them, because he's so into Idles, and he knows I am, too. Awesome stuff.
Pausing between songs, back to a classic Vaporwave mix:
Just saw Matthew Whitaker's set at the Saratoga Jazz Fest. Straight ahead, whew!
Just putting the finishing touches on a massive playlist that started out as 90s Britpop but expanded it to the rest of the British isles and into the mid 00’s.
Oasis, Cranberries, Fratellis, Catatonia etc.
Playing it LOUD while the fam is away.
Kurt Elling's set with Charlie Hunter and his horn players - yikes. I am going to be searching for his set list. Also buying some CDs. Lyrics and scat and killer killer improvisation right before our ears.
Ledisi was good, no slag on SPAC but the guys who do sound for the Sunday night series at the Agnes McDonald Music Haven in Schenectady Central Park are way better. Her voice and phrasing is really that good but got lost in the booming and echo. Didn't stop us from getting tix to see her sing the songs of Nina Simone with the Philly Orchestra!
Lincoln Center jazz orchestra with Wynton Marsalis was disappointing. Two words. Formulaic, reenactment.
