FWIW, my Seiko SKX173 fared in my recent mugging and assault far better than I did. Guys couldn't pull the thing off my wrist and still looks brand new. The bruise on my wrist from them tightening (instead of loosening) the stock Seiko rubber band is going to be around awhile, but the watch just keeps ticking right along.

For the money, this little watch is pretty tough to beat imo.

I'm hardly wearing my Mont Blanc quartz these days.

So...anyone have a Seiko H558 "Arnold" diver they want to get rid of?

    I'd like to buy it.

A little addition to my watch family from Dirk Dornbluth. Hopefully of interest to those who like small production shops.

I have been watching, and longing for, an Omega Seamaster that looked to be about mid-60's vintage, on a leather strap at the jeweller I go to.

I had finally convinced myself to buy it, and it was gone. Oh well.

Then this weekend I was down cleaning up my Mom's condo before we move her and I came across my Dad's old watch. An Eterna automatic. I remember it as long ago as I can remember so it is early '60's, maybe late '50's. Just lovely.

Will take it in and get it serviced, cleaned up and get a nice new leather strap on it.

So I took both Mom's and Dad's watches in today.

He looked at Mom's Rolex and said oh yeas, I will service this, then put it aside. His eyes lit up at the Eterna, said he hardly ever sees them any more. Guy was like a kid in a candy store, took the back off and made me come to look at the movement, said these are the finest movements ever made. Never seen him so excited.

He said I will get it back when it is really ready, but made me promise I intend to wear it.

    Nice! I had a PAM005 for 5 or 6 years. I miss it sometimes.

Never had one, but I do really like them. I think their Rattrapante is one of the cooler watches out there.

My exercise in resisting watches has failed miserably. I had gone about twelve or thirteen years without wearing one and now the draw for
a watch is back with a vengence. After wearing my dead Seiko Kinetic around the house and looking at watches online, I took another step
and went to a local jeweler to try on a Ball Hydrocarbon Spacemaster. Thank goodness my wrist is small, that thing is $3,800! Still want it though.
Nice lady at the jewelry shop wanted me to look at some Rolexes too. High priced and awesome, they are.
Looking through the cases, all the watches look huge now!
Well, I got my head out of the clouds and nailed down what I like. The main feature that draws me is a dial with the day and date side by side on it.
The Ball Spacemaster has it but I need to take baby steps here. I'm looking at getting a bicycle frame made, that watch would eat that budget.
And trust me, that is a fight in my head right now where the watch wins out against a new bike most of the time!
Sanity and my tightwad ways always wins (a product of growing up poor), I have found a baby step watch that may satiate my desire for awhile.
It's the Orient Ray. It has my day/date window:
    orient ray blue dial.png
There isn't a local shop that carries Orient watches and on Orient's site, the blue dial is out of stock.
I could live with the black dial. Amazon has both, black dial for $160, blue dial for $173. Is there a better source than Amazon?
If anyone here has any experience with the Orient brand and the Ray watch in particular, let me know what I'm in for if I get it.
Due to the price, the Mrs is all for it and is ready to order.

I've had an Orient digi-ana for about a year. Bought it used. It keeps very good time (but it's a quartz, so that isn't saying a whole lot) and works as advertised. Given the prices, I'd say if you like an Orient go for it.

Thanks for sharing Mabouya, that is a nice looking watch you have btw.
Orient USA is out of stock on the blue dial for the Ray. Wife likes the black and I do too. Hard to choose.
I'm going to check out watchuseek for information on where is the best place to buy the Ray, Amazon or and online retailer.
Black or blue and from wherever I get it, I'll post a pic. I'll obsess about it for a week or two before buying.
I can mark this month as the time I went off the wagon and back into watches.
I had better buy reliable bike stuff because my budget is going to get pulled hard by watches for a short while.
I mean, you only really need one or two watches, right? This won't trun into anything more than that will it? Ha!
    Thanks again.

    Good luck with that!

FWIW, IMO, etc., I'd go for the black as well.
