I learned that your favorite 3 mile gravelgrinder road climb is infintessimally more difficult when you put it at mile 50 in your ride vs. mile 10 like you normally do.

The original prototype for superglue was invented by a Kodak engineer back in the 40s, but didn't work well for the intended purpose, which was clear gunsights I think. Years later it was tested for aircraft canopies and they didn't like it, but in the 60s one of the original things that was noticed about it, (that it held tissue together and stopped bleeding very well) was remembered and it was submitted for FDA approval for that purpose. The military started using it without approval during the Vietnam war. It was credited with saving many lives,as it helped seal wounds so that soldiers could get to a hospital before bleeding out. The FDA didn't approve it until many years later, (90s maybe) and now they call it Dermabond.

Ironically because we used to glue many things together I worked alongside a chap who said the glue had actually been invented several times at several periods in time the its ability to stick skin has always been its highlight

Learned that memory triggers can be coded into two colors, which means it can be processed as binary...which means cylons are the future (memories can be up / downloaded, theoretically). Also, generic cells can be made into stem cells, so yeah, clones.....it's cylons.

A young woman who was just starting her bike commute caught up to me as I was finishing my 2-hour workout. She realized I was poor because I was riding a steel bike and told me that, if I wanted to go fast, I should save some money, get rid of my “water ford”, and buy a carbon bike to save 5 pounds.

So I learned that I'm poor and I'm slow.

I've had this notion for 4+ years and this confimed it. Our country is really lacking dragging hehind in the field of astrophysics. I am not in the field but I have I am a big night sky enthusiast. I am open to hearing what others think but I am concerned about how a project of this magnitude has no American involvement as far as I can tell.

I am happy for the people of Africa though.

I find that a pub 8 miles from where I live and which I have cycled past scores of times, as it is on one of my favourite loops but alas have never visited, has been voted best restaurant in the world. North Yorkshire's The Black Swan 'best restaurant in world' - BBC News

I feel that identifying the "best restaurant in the world" is about as subjective as calling a piece of music the best in the world or saying someone has built the best bike in the world. I was nevertheless interested by the news. It remains to be seen whether I will ever be able to book a table there or whether this report will increase the car traffic on what has up to now been a really quiet and attractive country road.

I've eaten there but I think before the current chef made it a hotspot. My recollection is that you could eat at the pub (which we did) or have a fancier meal in the dining room. Not sure if that's still the case.
