Have been itching for a timepiece for years now. Decided this was the year and fell in love with the Panerai 1940 line. On the wrist, I liked it, but didn't love it. So I wandered into the Omega boutique here in NoVa and wandered out with this. Had it a month now and am really, really enjoying it.

Oh that strap! Croc (gator?) with the curved ends, I want one so bad...and I have the deployant for it just sitting in the parts drawer. Given that the perforated rubber one is about $200 I can only imagine what Omega is getting for this one. Time to start saving for a new strap.
I also love that this has a date function on it, but looks like a traditional Speedy. Nice watch!!
is that an auto or hand wind? does the co-axial movement even come in hand wind?
all of my nice watches are divers, essentially, but i do have a soft spot for one of these, maybe someday. nice score !
It is auto; Co-Axial is only automatic. Originally when I was shopping the Speedmaster I kind of put the manual movement as a negative, but really winding it first thing in the morning is an easy habit to have. I will say the 60 hour power reserve of the Co-Axial movement is nice compared to my 48 hour on the manual movement.
I agree with this statement about the 60 hour power reserve. I don't have to touch my Aqua Terra for a whole weekend, and it's still running just fine on Monday morning when I go back to work. Granted, my other watches have ETA 2824 movements, so only a 38 hour power reserve, but it makes a big difference.
TT - You're going to be waiting a while for me to get bored with this piece (aka never).
This Speedmaster just ticked all the boxes: A classic piece. Sporty, yet can dress it up with the croc strap. Only two dials for the seconds and chrono. Date window.
Has anyone ever had a kid just to be able to hand a watch down? JUST KIDDING.

No BUT I will hand down my stainless no date sub I got for a milestone BD to my oldest son...it's 37 years young and still runs like new!
I also have my dads old Longines self winder that keeps great time and it's at least 65 years old & my grandfathers gold Hamilton retirement pocket watch from Packard Motor Car dated 1931....I think!
And yes I have a watch problem...a serious watch problem and dammed proud of it!

That is awesome! I have an octagonal National Watch Company (Elgin) pocket watch that was my great, great, great grandfather's from the late 1800s, but the movement needs to be reinstalled and would need a ton of work to get it running again. One day, if the repair cost sticker shock wears off, I'll get it fixed.
