Spotify's analytics have introduced me to artists I might have otherwise missed. My Steve Earle playlist added Ted Hawkins, a blues singer that died almost 30 years ago. I knew about Billy Bragg, but mostly from his work with Wilco/Uncle Tupelo. His work is amazing. Chris Smithers is a new fave as well. Hayes Carll is worth a listen.

I used to find Spotify annoying when my playlists were "infiltrated" by other songs, but it has also exposed me to artists I truly enjoy now.

The "Enhance" function available on playlists you create is nice in that it fleshes them out while allowing you to reject certain songs, thus improving the algorithm.

I am doing what old people do. I am listening to radios. Those that have an actual passionate programmer that spend his free time looking for things to listen.

10th Anniversary Edition. I still think of this as "new" - although I fondly remember listening while bathing my kids in the tub, ~10 yrs ago.

    "Giorgio" remains an excellent tribute.

Listening the whole way through with headphones... good times.

Last month a hippy looking man and his girlfriend came to Bluestem's Second Saturday show to see his friend G Bird perform. She noted the beer in my hand was the one he drinks, so I offered them what I had, and they accepted. We chatted a bit, but nothing indicated what would come - days later he messaged us to ask if we'd let him play some dub step in our shop. Ever since then, we've been blasting his music on our InFaze speaker (made by a guy in a small town six miles away) during our rides, and it hasn't failed to put a smile on my face. Never did I expect to like dub step!

He performed at our shop this past Saturday, putting everybody in a good mood. Here's one of his releases leading up to that night, featuring a half hour of him, followed by some guest music.

In honor of the recently (like, an hour ago) departed Ms. Tina Turner, I am listening to one of her most under-the-radar recorded performances: As uncredited (!) background vocalist, along with the other two Ikettes, on this Frank Zappa gem:

Built to Spill is/was a great band. Saw them in a tiny venue in PHX-AZ, and they were excellent live and terrific musicians.

Yes, Built to Spill is among the bands I’d like to have seen live.

I did see this band live. Thankful for that.

They are playing in Oz in late October. Looking forward to it.
