Yep…coming out of the gate with Highway Star surely sets the stage. My middle kid organized a discogs spreadsheet one Summer while he was working on a research project…background music and he’d rate the songs. He texted me one day and asked for some artists/LP’s that he wasn’t familiar with and I texted back…Deep Purple Machine Head….turn it up before your drop the needle on your turntable. About an hour later I received a response…OMFG.

The kids were home this weekend for a cousin’s wedding, and the soon-to-be 30yo commented about a Fleetwood Mac song that she’s been learning to play on her mandolin…I don’t want to know. I told her to go upstairs (our music, video game and general fun space is built above the garage…best room in the house), dust off my Rumours LP, fire up the amp, turn on the turntable and rock the rafters.

Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives….they played last evening at a local concert in the park. Virtuoso mandolin player and consummate showman and his band mates, excellent musicians and singers on their own.

We saw them at the Egg in Albany a couple of years ago and they were fantastic. You're lucky to have seen them as you did, they're coming back to the Egg and tickets are $200 each on the Egg's site - I can imagine what the resellers would be getting....

Edit: You got us four tickets to the show! I looked to verify the price and $200 was for the VIP package. Apparently when the member presale email came out that was all that was listed or I'd be front row. As it is, the Swyer Theater at the Egg is small enough that five rows back is still like they're playing in your living room.

One morning I woke all disoriented and put on a trusty Plur GRR mix. Before I knew it, Soundcloud autoplay for once put on something that captured my attention, and I struggled to stop listening. I listened to that mix at least 10 times that day. I might have a problem. I'm on my third listen since starting my latest post in the thread I started last year. It's now one of my standbys when I need to focus: Sikdope featuring RayRay.

I've been enjoying Pomplamoose lately, and generally everything to do with Scary Pockets.

I've been listening to the French music - covers I think? - in the garage. I recognize some. Haven't looked at the credits. A bit of Edith Piaf aura works well with saws and sanding. I feel like I should have a 2CV though.

Inexplicably -- well, it's not totally inexplicable, youtube has been leading me there as a result of its recommendation bots -- I've been listening to a lot of Chick Corea's Elektrik Band circa 2003 (when Mike Pope was the bass player).

Astonishingly good musicianship, and for the most part mercifully more mature & sensetive than when the Elektrik Band first appeared on the scene ~40 years ago...but there's still something a little cold and impersonal about the music. I definitely miss Chick's acoustic piano playing.
