There were discussions about drainage, for sure! We're accustomed to thinking about water - we get waterfalls (or icicles) off that rock wall after any heavy precipitation.
All the stone (except the bluestone wall cap) will be dry-laid over a compacted base. The gaps between the pavers (thermal full-color bluestone) will let moisture drain into the base. The base will be slightly angled to direct run-off "downhill". We have an existing french drain/sump pump installation at our basement foundation. And a dry well the sump pumps into...
A lot of water management for a 7000 sq ft spread!
GO!
Absolutely. I think we'll be able to use it half the year, but even during the coldest months we're looking out on that space every day.
My wife & I lived our entire adult lives without having outdoor space to call our own. And it wasn't until we finished our major interior renovations that we even started hanging out in our own yard. We are really fortunate to have this little green corner in the middle of Boston.
It's not a dramatic re-design, but will tailor the space to better define our private space, and will make that space much, much more appealing. Builder-grade stuff sucks. That flagstone has been artfully arranged so that - no matter how you move your chair - one chair leg falls in a crack between the stones. The surface is a bit topsy-turvy regardless...
GO!
Strongly considering the REI Half Dome 2 Plus with the 20% off right now. The gear nerd in me is really tempted to splurge for something lighter like a Nemo Dagger or MSR Hubba Hubba, but then I come to my senses and realize that I have little interest in regular backpacking and that this would be more than fine as a car camping tent that could be split between two people should I ever want to get my hike on.

Have you seen Matt (The Smoking Tire) Farah's build? (another Leh Keen project)
Matt Farah on Instagram: “Shit’s gettin super funky down there in Georgia! Interior all done on my @lehmank Safari build and It looks exactly as nutty as I had hoped…”
That is "LA City Bus" fabric. Pretty wild.
