Decompressing after a great Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show- thanks to all of the sponsers, attendees and exhibitors for making it a great time. I met several new VSalon members this year, too!

Surprise (to me) break out success of the Winter booth? The hard working (and freshly built up) knife sharpening bike! My highlight was watching the very happy new owner ride it out at the end of the show!

I've had a bit of a chance to sit back after the weeks leading up to and the weekend of the Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show and organized a few of my thoughts on my blog.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a great time. As you find photos or publish your own work on flickr, blogs, etc, please send me links and I'll get those up on the show site.

Life's events prevented me from going to the show. I met you at the San Diego show last year and wish I could have attended the Oregon show. All custom bikes are cool, but Oregon builders bring something special to the market, a real world utility that performs.

I've been trying to highlight the work I brought to the show for folks that missed it. In addition to the knife grinder bike I also brought out a fun mountain town 28'er (I posted a few shots on this last FNL).

Here is a quick write up.

The 28'r is the bike I wanted for tons of xc races in the late 90's.
Those bastards at Spooky never let me have anything nice though.
45c tires are wicked frikkin fast.

Hey I think I saw you at the Camp Harlow swap meet this weekend. do you work at Arriving by Bike?

Yup- I had a little booth with a few bikes/ frames. I used to work for Paul, and still help out with some of the larger sale weekends when he needs it.

And just for fun, another shot of the Eisentrautish seat stay treatment (blending the fast back with little fillets) in the finished state. I like that the brass between the lug and the tube is visible at the top edge:

In addition to the work, January has also been a busy time with shop visitors. I’ve had several local clients come through picking up and dropping off work, done a few consultations and fittings and met with several of my local industry friends. Just yesterday Ian and Andy (from Rouleur and Privateer respectively) popped in as part of their US visit.

Ian wrote a few words about the visit, and Andy busied himself taking photos:
