Gawd, it is unbelievable how much stuff is in a kitchen. STUFF. Boxes and boxes and boxes.

You find some amazing stuff though.

At what point exactly in our lives together did either my wife or I think that a microwave Bundt Cake pan seemed like a good idea?

Really. I am just baffled by some of the crap. And there is so much of it!

I hear you TMB. Befriend young couples, they accept cast offs eagerly.

More good news. Cabinets were quoted to within $900 of estimated budget. Countertop estimate is next.

I try to avoid big kitchen tools that only have one dedicated usage. Our notable exceptions are:
    - raclette oven
    - crepe maker
    - pasta machine
    - waffel/croque-monsieur/pannini oven

The rest are mostly basic generic tools. We communicated about it with our friends/family and we would sell anything we receive that is outside the scope.

We have been regular visitors to REstore, the stores run by Habitat for Humanity. They are happy to take all manner of odd things.

The new kitchen is going to be quite basic, very few gadgets or machines.

Hopefully one result of this (other than my impoverishment) will be a rationalization of the whole kitchen and cleaner, emptier cupboards.

    I hope.

Countertop bid came in $1000 under budget. Conspiracy ;)

    + Fire extinguisher.

If you have no other one purpose tool in the kitchen, this is the one.

A large loose bag of flour isn't acceptable????? Kidding. Good advice, we have always had that despite the razzing I get from my friends.

Somewhere I have a book that looks at kitchens in the homes of a bunch of top chefs. If I can find it, I'll send it to you. It's an interesting read because it has ideas that one might not think of, like a commercial Hobart dishwasher....

Toots, I missed this (and the rest of the forum as well as actually riding my bike) with work and all. You need to check out C&D Home Improvement if you have not already committed. Here is my crappy little rambler as it stands now.

The kitchen is nothing but studs right now, but we just got the permit to start insulating and closing walls. If you are interested, you can come see what they are doing and make the introductions.

Real nice looking rambler. I'd love to have a meet n' greet pending outcome of out last proposal meeting this Thursday.

Thanks, I can't wait to move back in! Let me know. These guys are top notch. I can walk you through what we are doing, what the constraints are/were and show you just how bad it was to begin with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Cool, I can walk you through what we've done. They're installing siding and drywall now. :)

Omg. Be there in two weeks. Send me an invite.

Just back from the cabinet / design meeting. Total man crush for the concept guy. He nailed the design and level of quality we need. This thing is a go.

Good / bad news is that my GC has a deal in place for Wolf so I need to relook at Wolf ranges or suck it up and pay full boat for Thermador. Anybody with some experience with their ranges of late chime in now!
