i've never timed mine in various positions in order to balance out daily variations (see link) but may give that a go.

anybuddy do that? attempt to balance daily gains with nightly losses? main reason i haven't as i wear 'em 24/7 and when consistently alternating watches, the time is close enough.

also-my personal "trick" on day/date setting is to (of course letting the watch cycle through day/date movement before adjusting) use the quickset feature to get to yesterday's date, then to roll fwd cycling "naturally" into the current date. doing it that way prevents am/pm inversion.

Those ideas really started in the pocketwatch era!
Most movements are not that effected by this, at least not much.
I guess if a few seconds a day matters to you then ok, go for it.

I have seen some watches that ran fast/slow when you turned them dial up/down, crown up/down.
So I don't want to imply that it never happens, because it does. Just not that often or extreme.
But the ones that did do it, DROVE me crazy.

Wade my 6306 ran 2-3 seconds/day fast before I had it serviced to sell. I always positioned it crown-down at night which slowed it back down to the correct time by morning (undoubtedly part of which was the natural slowing as the spring unwound). One time I set it on the first day of the month and didn't touch it all month, when I set the date on the first day of the next month it was only 3 seconds off - pretty dang good for a 31year old Seiko imho...

the g-10 is great. won't clean as easy as rubber, but fit/color is great. a bit clunky getting into and out of compared to deployant, and you gotta learn how to tuck that strapmo, but overall quite satisfied and my watch looks better.

WRT the balancing the gains/losses: mine always gain when i wear one 24/7. i'm just not used to taking a watch off at night, i like to know what time it is when i wake-without fumbling to find a watch or light. so when i got the second one, i started alternating days to keep 'em both wound. that's when i noticed more accurate time-keeping, with each watch on/off my wrist ~24 hour cycles.

and it kept both watches running, so that if _fashion_ called i could grab the appropriate colors w/o the need to adjust date/time.

i'm 3 min fast right now, but i've learned not to care (as much so long as it's +). hell i used to sync up the analog and digital sides of my expeditions...now i'm usually referencing the day/date as much as the time when i look at my wrist.

I'm going to get a world time watch of some kind eventually--maybe something other than a Seiko. I think that strap kind of ruins that model in the photo. I'm loving the concept though.

Been wearing one of these for 20 years. Been serviced twice by Tag at $400 each. Gains a minute or two a month depending on how much I wear it. Paid $800 for it and have no regrets. Durable and not as large as the current trend.

hey hey, i was going to ask about citizen--like does anybody wear one?

I've been wearing a Citizen GN-4W-S Automatic daily since '95 or '96. It's the only watch I own. Loses about a minute a week.

It looks similar to this, only with a gold body and band. I still get compliments on it. It could use a new crystal, though.

I'll blame this on Wade ;>) (he's got big shoulders..) after all he started this thread which got me thinking about mechanical watches again. I spent some time looking around bought a yobokies modded Seiko, found the WUS forum and then Wade talked up the virtues of a Dive watch and I found this.

I'll keep it on the bracelet for the time being, ETA 2824-2 movement, domed sapphire crystal, need to fix the date I see, but I am extremely pleased. Very comfortable, a bit heavier than my other watch but that 's ok.
