Andrew Weill discussing Corvid-19
Lot of hype, CDC is a great resource
One of the things that drives Dr. Weil crazy is that people who are sick don't stay home- Amen!!!

Me too, but I work in an office where people have the option. For a whole bunch of workers in the US, staying home means not getting paid, and not getting paid is not an option. This is going to get really interesting really quick if we start seeing more closings en masse of schools and workplaces.

IMBY content - Wednesday I start a 35 session run of radiation 1x daily through my vocal cords and so far no discussion of this from my oncologist. I am sure it'd be a completely different deal if I were getting chemo. I was doing that, had about zero white blood cells and caught the flu. That was fun. I can see why anybody that has anything that won't tolerate that kind of thing well would be a little nervous right now.

Re: sources of information. While driving last night I heard NPR's On the Media and the interview Laurie Garrett. She names a number of publications and writers she recommends: Black Swans | On the Media | WNYC Studios

that is very good every day advice for avoiding germs of all sorts
on the other hand i don't think i have ever seen more hazmat suits
First thing that came to mind when you mentioned lottery was a dead pool list. Morbid.
But then again, we have an all-hands meeting for my day job at noon. I'm picturing the topic being: "We need a 3% headcount reduction. You've all been infected with C19. We expect the normal attrition rate to take care of this, so there won't be any involuntary lay-offs."

This! I was at the family doc today for a sinus infection. To things she stressed about coronavirus was wash your hands and avoid crowds. Just like any other respiratory infection. She also mentioned wearing a mask in public for prevention was a bad idea. Masks are uncomfortable and most people will be constantly touching it and readjusting it. This will transfer germs from your hands to the mask where they will thrive in a warm moist environment.

Interesting look at the situation.
Forget about mortality rate, this is why you should be worried about coronavirus

Avoid crowds. Wash hands. Two impossibilities if I leave our apartment in Manhattan. Might walk to pilates instead of taking the subway. 52 blocks?
Not sure why I am in NYC right now actually. Except perhaps for delivery sushi and the density of high quality hospitals.
Something sobering I heard on the radio about this idea yesterday is that the Spanish flu of 1918 actually claimed many more lives in 1919 after the summer season had diminished the virus somewhat for several months, only to return with a vengeance for the following winter season. Some say this could be similar.
It's a bad cold. You may eventually get it. Ride your bike, and if you're smart, profit off market momentum driven by others' emotion. That is all.
