Hang in there, man...was just thinking about you on this morning's ride.
SPP
Bummer indeed. My advice is to push it, just like you've done before, to find out what you can do.
Good luck Steve. Hope you get better.

You one smart fella Mr. Garro. Stay the course and away from the nasty germs ect. Work those deep breathing drills and keep the lungs clear. You ain't missing much with all the Covid 19 dealeos any who.
Rest and recover, please. I'll make do by looking back through your work. There's at least six weeks worth of great stuff that I've forgotten about.

Man, totally.
Not only Covid (I can name a dozen healthy people who have / had it and maybe 12 dead if not more, mostly elderly) but just the flu or a cold with a cracked chest, no thanks !!!
Lungs are clear after a week of what I called "Puking out of your lungs" and I stretch the scar and do deep breathing.
I wanna come back from this strong, I know how long I have left to live more or less and I wanna rock it.

In another life I worked in Cardiac Rehab. Great job for a youngster. If we even hinted about having a cold or illness the boss MD gave us a paid week off. Nothing could be worse than a super spreader in a fresh heart exercise setting. That is why I always mention the deep breathing drills. The ones that did it had much faster and successful results.

Thanks !!!!
Yeah, if I can not get sick for 3 months I feel like my immune system should be fairly normal?
Thoughts on that?
I've been on the super DL as far as people, man, kind of lonely but at the same time kind of not WRT all that's 2020 = getting pretty skinny as I can't exercise much with the 5lb weight limit (my coffee cup weighs that) but I'll go into my post operative world light, at least.
This pic was about a week ago, I think I've lost 15-20lbs down from around 180?

I was exploring some shitty roads with the Denise Blue Disc Dirt Road Racer last night wondering how you're doing. Looking forward to a visit in the way distant future.

I reckon I need to check in as I was beginning to get some "Are you still alive?" inquiries, and I'm still here, it's just that for me the days have been just marching on one at a time, I'm passing them the best I can and have not lost my shit yet, not that there isn't still ample time to do so - a recap:
Today, 11/17, sees me about starting my 10th week of shutdown.
I spent over six solid weeks in one futon with a camp shitter tied to the edge of it by my head, only leaving twice for doctor visits until I though that I was nearing skin breakdown as my ass hurt SO BAD from one bed even tough we spun the mattress and had 3" of foam on top because I was getting so, so skinny, so we moved houses and descended 4000ft for more oxygen and warmer temperatures..
A common thing after open heart surgery is that you just can't eat.
It was so hard to even force down 1/2 rations of things you otherwise liked just fine and I wasted away laying there.
Most people who do not have a spinal cord injury do so much better as you can just take off & walk and are encouraged to do so as much as possible right away to exercise your new plumbing and to keep your mass up, your energy use and food intake as well.
As I cannot do this I've withered away and generally feel awful and my bone growth has been retarded from the muscles not pulling on them causing them to grow faster.
I can feel that my sternum isn't fully healed especially around the plate they put on the top of my sternum, I'm skinny enough that I can feel the allen heads bolting it to my skeleton pretty clearly, in my doc's words 'If you could walk, we wouldn't even be having this conversation."
So, three more weeks until I'm cut loose to "Do Anything" which to me means "Move around freely in your chair using a huge dose of caution."
For the last 2+ weeks I have been moving around in my chair very, very, very minimally = think bathroom, very little kitchen, sit in the sun for a few hours a day if possible.
Not Much / very cautious.
Big thing is all my past injuries and surgeries like all my broken ribs from 2005 and a shoulder / chest issue from a car wreck are all trying to find their new place(s) in this and they are not super happy about relocating but i reckon they will eventually comply, I hope - I've certainly done some major work-arounds since being crushed in '05 but there have been some major WTF moments like having my whole shoulder / clavicle complex pop and lock and then the AC joint pops loose and it found a new home where I hope it's happy now.
I have a super troublesome and painful spot below the plate where a rib is out and the intercostal space is so deeply sore and throb-y out of the blue, I hope that rectifies given time & healing so I can eventually ride my off-road hand cycle again.
I also have considerable numbness in my pectoral muscles and a big discrepancy between the right and left pec.
Working on that through exercises.
WWW says to expect around 22% reduction in lung function following open heart and I have to say that that's about right from my perspective.
I'm sure there's a lot more, but at least I'm long off the Oxys (pure poison, those fuckers) so I can read again - I spend a lot of time staring, thinking of old journeys I went on in better times and hoping for more of the same someday if I can avoid some of them fancy lung diseases everyone is passing around these days.
There you go, more or less.........

First day back in the shop today since my heart attack on 9/13 - the 12 weeks on my back with my arms at my side did take a tool on my health in many ways, but I have been doing nothing but cooking and PT (self-driven and prescribed) since Dec. 5th and here I am.
Feeling pretty OK but I definitely still have to work on my endurance in every aspect.
