It seems like another lifetime when the menu for materials was just crumbs, or stuff made for Big Bikemaker Inc. But for most of the 1990s and into the 21st century, the roads of commerce, manufacturing, and market share intersected at every corner except my the one I was standing at. One way to reverse engineer that trend was to get a degree in Reverse Engineering. Another was to have a Paddy Chayefsky moment at scream out the window. Still another was to do something about it.
