    This is it, the Zanc CX is a party off road and for a 29er to ride like that off road would be ideal. If you sort that out for small frame sizes I'm in.

    Hi Ronnie,
    I had a Benotto with internal routing. It was pretty sweet and clean looking, and it worked fine with the friction shifting. Maintenance was kind of frustrating though. The cables went right into the frame at the DT lever boss adn then wrapped around a sleeve inside the BB. That was the easy part. The challenge was getting it to poke out the end of the chainstay. I also had a Klein Rascal mtb that had internal routing (just through the down tube so not full internal routing). That was easier because of the full length tube running through the down tube. Anyway, I like the ease of working on a drive train with external cables. I also think that indexed shifting is less tolerant of cable friction that can results from internal routing. Having a nice clean run of cables goes a long way to making the current components work as nicely as possible. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not really for me.

    It was time. I had enough. And along came the perfect partner. Kerry Whittle of K2C Racing in Utah had the know-how and the equipment. I wanted more choices. He wanted to make some rings. Let's do it.

    I'm thrilled to show the images of the 44 outer and the 38 inner for Campagnolo CT cranksets. Kerry is in the process of machining a couple of the 38s for testing and the 44s are coming soon after. If all goes according to plan, you'll be able to see them on the bike of mine in the TRP Brakes booth at Interbike. A huge thank you to Lance Larrabee of TRP for allowing me a space for the show.

    So what's next after that? Kerry is working on the files for 110 bcd as well as other sizes. You'll notice that the Campagnolo rings are not just a 110 bcd with an oblong hole for the behind-the-crankarm bolt. No way. These match the OE rings perfectly. The chain catch pin on the outer is in the correct place. The outers are pinned and ramped for what we hope will be great shifts. These are for 10 speed, but Kerry is currently measuring the 11 speed rings and we'll see if any changes need to be made to the program for 11.

    Your timing on this is perfect (well, nearly.) It's clear to me after just a few short rides that the 50-34 rings on my new 'cross bike are just wrong. So a few questions:

    • Are you planning to produce not only these Campy CT rings, but also rings for 'standard' 110 BCD cranks (like, say, the Shimano FC-R600)?
    • What rings would you recommend for a middle-aged CX newbie planning to ride & race in NE?

    Answer these correctly and I may be looking into a bespoke CX bike before too long.

    Hi David,
    Yes, Kerry is working on the Mastercam files for 110 bcd, but he's focused on the Campy 38/44 at the moment so it's done in time for Interbike. But the plan is to have inners in 36 and 38 and outers in 42, 44, and 46. We'll probably make a program for a 40 outer, but we'll see.

    I think a 36/42 would rock for you. You'll be in the 42 most of the time, but you'll have the 36 for warming up and for heavy or hilly courses.

    Zank, that 44 would have been perfect for my race Sunday. I was in the 46 for most of the race, except the climb which required me to shift. Then my FD stopped working alas.. I know I lost a few places!!
