They fly to a lot of places. Anyway, I don't start for a bit. It takes a bit from that phone call until I'm actually working there!
I used to fly to BDL all the time. Always enjoyed it. I really enjoy a mix of larger and smaller airports. The small ones are far easier to manage.
They fly to Cabo too. C'mon down and we'll go for tacos.
So you're the new pilot for my company plane! Congratulations. Perhaps if you ever fly out west I'll catch a ride.
I fly a fair amount, and they're the one airline that i actually feel like everyone there wants me to fly with them. Others make me feel like an imposition.
I'm gonna get in on this early non-grump party, too. Just finished up my second-to-last semester of grad school, which is itself pretty awesome. But the real non-grump is that its been my most successful semester academically ever. EVER. And that feels pretty rad.
Catching up on the last few weeks ...
dgaddis: so much good luck to you. I know what you mean about it being hard to leave when you were in on the ground floor.
nierman: you should be proud. Both of my daughters have school band experience but my older daughter's private lessons were a high point.
speedychix: do you know how often I think of you and hope you're going to say what you said 2 weeks ago? Probably not.

I have never been so happy to find out that my dog has a tick-borne disease (anaplasmosis)...given the alternative may have been rapidly hitting old age, cancer, etc.
She actually seemed to bottom out a few days before we visited the vet, has been definitely on the upswing since then, and now 2 rounds of blood work reveals that a 30 day cycle of medication should put it behind us.

The kids are back from school. We roasted a chicken and drank too much wine.

My holiday weekend started early with a trip to K-State for a visit with my daughter. Neat place.
Safe and Happy Holidays everyone!

Our son is here from New York City.
Very early Christmas morning.
I'm greatly looking forward to the variety of work they do. In the meantime I've got a couple very interesting trips coming up and I'm hoping for a great finish at the current place and a great start at the new one! Very good vibes at the interview, that's for sure.
As a follow up to my grumpy Thursday thread about a week ago. I had the discussion with my boss about taking the month of February off. After our discussion, I am only taking on week off.
The reason was a good one, as my management has decided to split my job into two positions. I get to keep all of the responsibilities that I like and someone else will be taking over the responsibilities that I do not like.
I never thought that this would happen and am delirious with joy. 2016 sucked, but so far 2017 is looking up. Transition should be late February, so six weeks to go.
life is too short to drink bad wine....

Laatste ronde tonight. My last trauma call in a surgical career. Thirty five years spending between every other (residency/fellowships in the 80's) and every fifth night with little to no sleep, most of it in urban war zones. I had a lot of fun and fulfillment but I keep seeing my age-matched peers drop like flies from the cumulative physical stress. Handing off my trauma center and department in great shape to someone I consider my younger brother. I was fortunate enough to develop a lot of non-clinical skills that make me valuable to my system in alternate ways. Moving onto an SVP job and, if I can gather the energy to scratch up an MBA, maybe bigger things in a few years. Will pick up the scalpel now and then by the light of day - it's a fundamental part of my identity and I want to retain my skills for the possibility of relief work in retirement. Very excited about the new opportunity. Even more excited to sleep in the same bed with my wife every night. Taking a couple of weeks off before the new gig. New Years Eve at home with close friends then Cx Nats in my usual pack filler role and then a few days sun/beach vacation. It will be interesting to see what regular sleep does to my performance on the bike - if I still suck at cross next year, it's because I truly suck and not because I'm only sleeping 30 hours a week. Happy New Year to the Salon.

It's Friday afternoon and I am getting ready to shut the job site down. Pho and sushi for lunch with the boss ( he paid!) and informed that the company had its most profitable year ever. Bonus will be nice this year.
Happy New Year everyone.

Day Two of a five-day weekend. Wife & kid out at the theater, so I got in a mountainbike ride and now, with the house to myself for a few hours, am blasting Ted Leo. The day will end with homemade pizza. Tomorrow morning we'll volunteer in the kitchen of a women's shelter, then my bride and I will spend the evening celebrating our anniversary, by ourselves, at home. Sunday we'll open our doors to a whole bunch of friends, then host some of our favorites for dinner. Monday's the last day of my kid's long visit home. So that will focus on her.
Tuesday, bring on 2017!
GO!
