Just got a text from my daughter.
She fed a Giraffe at Camp Verde.
I don't think it is any sort of code.

Cool!
"Out of Africa" critter park.
Does she live in AZ?
I see you live in one of the most beautiful parts of the rockies - barely got into the Okanagan fighting fires one summer - fires know no boundaries & when you show up on foot with chainsaws nobody cares if you are from AZ!

No, we have a place in the great seething mass of humanity further south. She and her Mom are down for her reading break.
When the BIG fires hit the firefighters come from everywhere. I don't actually want to be a fireman ( though maybe I did when I was 6) but it has always struck me that that it is a vocation unlike any other. They really are a family, and they come from far and wide when the call goes out.
The last BIG fire that went through here was in 2003. My neighbour is a fireman, and he kept us up to date on what was happening.
Some friends up the road a bit got the evacuation order from the West Vancouver Fire Department. Half a mile away, we got the evacuation order from the San Diego, California Fire Department.
It was awesome to see them all just come together and work together, no pissing contests. They evacuated 40,000 of us that one night which was a pretty impressive thing to see.
My neighbour in turn has been in California and Arizona when the call has gone out there.
Cool!
Let me know if you come up the hill sometime.
I'm about 50/50 Flag/CV starting March through May-ish.
Yeah, I've seen Maine city fire trucks in Wyoming during the Yellowstone fire.
I've fought fire side by side with convicts with axes & saws in CA, not a single concern.
The brotherhood of fire - you watch my ass, I'll watch yours - Heads Up! Rock! Rock!
We worked our way north from the Methow Valley in WA up to you guys' part of the woods.
Beautiful stuff!
